When we will be seen as beautiful… just as we are.. Without chemicals.. or European conformist perceptions of beauty? When will we be okay with just being … black. Comfortable in our own skin, and still portraying perceived beauty around the world.

Its sad to see processed chemicals in hair... and weaves.. just to fit into our stereo-types of what we believe as beautiful. I would love to see a change. Back when India Arie and Lauren Hill were popular…

And granted all black women, people are different.. but when will we be allowed to be natural.. and still seen as beautiful?

When will we get a break?

Actually I wear dreads normally in a bun... because I work in a corporate atmosphere who doesn’t really get the point of dreads yet. This Avatar is as close as I can get.

And It's funny how we state that the media.. nor society makes those choices for us.. but the reason why we make those choices ... is to make ourselves more European.

Look at the foundation. Look at how it's created.

That's as bad as saying that the Georgia state flag didn't need to be changed... because it was apart of southern pride... but when reading the history we would find that it was displayed after brown vs. the board of education to rebel against integrating the school systems.
NO we don't consciously make decisions that make us look "more white", but we do alter ourselves dramatically, to fit in to portrayals of beauty. Look at the models and singers of our culture. And, what I am hoping for is some serious intellectual thought ... not to necessarily change, but to HONESTLY see it for w

Hopefully people will get a clue and quit believing the hype and sterotypes placed upon black women seeing is that its a whole new millenium. I would love to see change too but truth of the matter is people fear what they dont understand. You on the other hand i feel you have a point but you just might be a hypocrite. If god wanted you to have straight blonde hair he would have made you a blonde. Ive never once seen a black woman with hair that straight without perms and blonde without their hair being dyed so dont hand me that crap about european conformist perception because i dont see a lady rocking a afro or dreads with natural hair color no where in your avatar. Give yourself a break. I rock the braids, the buns, the crinkles, whatever that has nothing to do with what TV or the world portrays as beautiful so long as my man likes it. Hes the only one im tryin to impress and look good for I could care less about the world.

During the 70's it was a thing to be seen as black and natural but unfortunately as more job opportunities became available in the work force there was a pressure to fit in. So Afros, Braids, & Cornrows was given the back seat. I'm afraid this may never change as long as black women are continually told to hate themselves. This is taught at a very early age by our mothers when they relax and straghten their child's hair or buy them white dolls. I do not think this will change until we are able to stand up to those who say black is not beautful. Another thing...I find that a lot of others try to copy our natural beauty like our hairstyles, lips, hips, and bootie! Even the tanning salons never see a dreary day.

I'll do whatever I want if I want to change my look. It has nothing to do with "European conformist perceptions of beauty". You can say it does, but maybe you are just mad at those who have a stronger resolve than you. No one needs to tell me that I'm beautiful to make me feel better about myself...but they do anyway, so I don't know what you're talking about!
If you need the media to praise you for your self-esteem to go up, that's really sad.

Uh... What does race ought to do with a broken heart? do no longer even think of roughly race. This international is so loopy--absolutely everyone feels like race is wrapped up in each thing. stupid. He did no longer smash your heart via fact he's white or considering which you're black. Bi-Polar disease will make his and all human beings he shares his existence with very depressing if he does no longer take the attempt and time to regulate it as much as he's able. that's a terrible circumstance i desire on no-one. possibly you're no longer fascinated in black adult males considering which you have no longer met any you experience are "good" or 'worth" or "cultured" or besides the fact that trait that's you're ascribing to white adult males which you have an interest in. possibly in case you moved out of your "convenience zone" and explored different aspects of your community could could locate many distinctive cultures that apeal to you and that i understand for beneficial you will locate something interesting approximately all of them! that's what's enormous approximately this international--each way of existence has magnificent attributes! in basic terms gown advantageous yet casual and function lunch or coffee interior the employer sector of a medium to enormous city and notice who's busy working around doing thier employer. Or spend it sluggish sorting out a close-by college. See what's there--no longer in basic terms what you're searching for! sturdy good fortune! i desire you make the hassle to evaluate to place aside race and proceed to be open to the guy you're meant to be with in spite of his race.

That's good for you, but alot of black women will choose to do as they wish with their image. Our hair is delicate, yet "flexible", as in we can do many things with it.

If you choose to go natural (your avatar isn't sporting "natural"), then go for it...

*P.S.

I'm feelin' you on that "weave" sh**...and annoys the crap outta me!
