I honestly don't know why. This isn't like, "argh, I hate Bush, *stab*" question. I seriously just don't know what's going on and all of the reasons we went there in the first place. What was our original reason for going? What have we accomplished, and what are we doing now?

Several reasons why we invaded Iraq. Saddam was a horrible dictator, and dictatorships cause terrorism by making people so desperate, and by twisting society so people think murder and suicide are a good idea. Also, everybody (including Democrats and Republicans in America, and people in countries all around the world) thought Saddam had WMD's (biological, chemical, nuclear) because he defied UN inspectors, violating his agreement with them.

So, we're there to liberate the Iraqi people, and to try to spread freedom and democracy throughout all the Arab dictatorships. It's very hard, and it costs many lives and tons of money, and it's gonna take many years, but it is worthwhile.

Most of Iraq is calm, secure, and getting more prosperous. Some parts of Iraq are chaotic and violent.

If we fail, then the slaughter is really gonna come, just like when we lost the Vietnam war and the North Vietnamese communists murdered like TWO MILLION peasants after the US left Vietnam.

Saddam the dictator prevented Iraqis from killing each other, and the bad guys are exploiting the lack of a dictator right now. Plus other bad governments like Iran and Syria are causing trouble in Iraq now.

We gotta win.

"Weapons of mass destuction" has been acknowledged to be a lie. Basically, Bush wanted to make a "Legacy" and the goal he chose was to establish a "democracy" in the middle east and thus protect Israel. Obviously this cannot be done, but that doesn't slow a "true believer" down, because he is convinced that somehow "god" is on his side and will make it all work out. Unfortunately the god on his side is the one we call Satan. Now the fact that congress failed to do their duty, and allowed the president to declare war (that is congress' job) and the fact that various people lied about the "intelligence" we had from various sources... (Yellow cake, etc) helps to confuse the matter. We have accomplished no good. "We" have invaded a nation which posed no threat to us, and killed a few hundred thousand people (mostly civilians) and spent many billions of dollars, thus hastening our final reckoning of bankruptcy, (When we are forced to acknowledge that never will we be able to pay the debts that we have contracted to pay) We certainly haven't done anything good, and it looks like it will have to get a lot worse before the idiots in Washington finally admit that it isn't working.

Errmm.. OIL
America and to a lesser extent England need to be able to buy oil at a relative cheap price in order to sustian their respective econmies - "It's all about the econmy stupid" - Saddam was not a threat to anyone full stop, give him US dollars from wholesale export of crude oil OK different picture;

Bush:Heya Ton, gonna have a shoot out with ol' Saddam. Back me up an' make you plently rich an' all the girls will love ya!

Blair: Sounds like a plan big man.

Conclusion:
No WMD's found
Genocide? An enthinic group (kurds) were indeed murdered in great numbers - this happened over twenty years ago and NOW we take action?
Harbouring known terrorists: really? Ok well so does a great many of other countries INCLUDING the UK and the US....(hmm didn't Karl Marx write Des capitals whilst staying as a guest in England)

We went there with the oringinal intent of finding weapons of mass destruction, but truthfully I think good ol'e George decided to go after Saddam because it was an excuse to clean up a mess his father (George Sr.) couldn't complete. I also think the notion of invading Iraq so soon on the heels of 9/11 enabled the Bush administration to use the emotions surrounding the tragedy in an attempt to rally the country to get Saddam out of power. Granted, Saddam was a sorry excuse for a human being and he needed to be held accountable for his actions, so in that part we have succeeded. With over 3000+ of our men and women lost, and with more to be deployed, the price for liberating another country has been heartbreaking.

The Iraqi government needs to step up to the plate and take care of thier own affairs. We can't be there to hold thier hands forever, and more efforts should be spent on finding Osama instead of involving ourselves in a civil war.

They originally went in looking for weapons of mass destruction, convinced they existed based on the Iraqi governments' refusal to allow the UN inspection. But their information was wrong. And they went in without expressed permission of the UN. The Bush government defends their status there now as saying they are helping oppressed people. The problem with helping oppressed people is that they need to WANT to be helped. The Bush government is trying now to bring freedom and peace to the Arab nations..... but that's proving to be a pot to big to handle. As good a dream as it is, Bush can't do it. The Arab nations don't want it. He has invaded them in the name of God and freedom but the Arabs have a different God and a different idea of freedom, they don't want Americans involved and the American government refuses to see this.

okay. so Saddam Hussien is...woah...i mean was the leader of Iraq. He was part of the minority of the two (sects? types? of) muslims so he was killing of the majority of the other type of muslims (genocide). he didnt want to be overthrown by the majority....u kno how it goes with dictators. btw there are only two types of muslims in the whole world and i dont know which one he was bc i get mixed up with sunni muslims and shi'ite muslims.

so anyway Bush was like we should stop this genocide in the UN and only Britain backed him up so they went to war but told the world they were "looking for weapons of mass destruction". (im not with bush bc it was none of his business and what hes doing right now in iraq is basically genocide too and because WAR IS NOT THE WAY TO GET THESE GUYS TO MAKE A STABLE GOVERMENT). in my opinion if britain hadnt back bush up then bush would not have gone to war with alone. (not saying that its britains fault but just pointing something out.)

and now its just like if we back out....USA is going to go down in history in a negative light bc we were kinda not supposed to be there and didnt accomplish anything except kill their dictator...which isnt saying a lot bc more people are dying then they did when saddam was still in control. and i dont think there is any way of "WINNING."

hope that helped!

Look at a map. It's not a mystery that we have troops on both the East and West borders of Iran. It is not just a coincidence. Iran is a major threat to the world.

"Weapons of mass destruction",Saddam regime the dictator, spreading democracy, protecting Iraqies, secure US and fighting terrorists...all re reasons just to justify the US intervention in IRAQ.But what is really US achieved from this war is putting its hand on IRAQ..trying to enter other desirable countries in order to got their aims and objectives.
