I have two reasons.

First reason as said before is steroids. Many of the greatest AB per HR leaders in the 1990s used staeroids.

Second reason is because the baseball players have greatly improved during the 1990s. People learned how to play the game of baseball a hell lot better. Improving there batting stance and everything.

I agree with most of the list no goons only dirty players. I'd take Howe off the list though. His elbows were not like Marchmant's or Prongers. He used them to fend off defenders and make his space. If you left him alone he left you alone. A couple of others though Dave (Tiger) Williams, the early Stan Mikita (lots of stick work), reach into the farm in Viking Alberta and take your pick. Dale Hunter had a couple of brothers that could hold their own as well. Good question some of these guys were goons as well but most went out of their way to inflict pain.

because as baseball progressed new pitches have come out...not to say people use them today but some do i know for a fact like the knockle curve
also as people got older they learned new secrets to pitching or how to get into peoples heads
