There was a period in America(1700's?) known as the Golden age in america, for WOMEN. But did it really exist?

Some people say that is did, cuz there was a time where women were in charge of the household, and they had property ownership after thier husbands died...and they also started to have some political say in thier time.

BUT then some people say no, it wasnt a golden age, because women were seen as domestic people, and house cleaners. They were never allowed to go out of the house and do anything but clean and take care of children.

.........So what do you guys think?

It would be a golden age compared to thier time....cuz it was a change i guess....but compared to now..its not.
.....
I dont know!! I am lost!!!! helpp!!..........
I also pasted this same thing in the history disscussion as well as this one...jut to let everyone know.

I don't believe this is a factual statement.
Fact is, even in America during this time, the husband got everything and the wife was often destitute.

If a couple was guilty of not paying taxes or debt's.... it was the husband that went to debtor's prison for sometimes years. The woman got nothing, and could not break off the ties with her deadbeat husband. The husband got food and a roof over his head, the wife and sometimes even the children died in the streets without any recourse.

Women in the USA enjoyed more rights than women in europe at the time. Women living in what was known as the "wild west", had even more rights. I would not go so far as to label it a golden age though.

I'm not familiar with American history .. But it could do with the changing of time and peopl'e thoughts. But what i do know is that in Africa before the European colonies men and women were seen as equal and they all did duties to help the household there were no inferior or superior roles, but the colonies changed this wen they need "man" labour ...
by the way i just finished highschool and I'm starting my first year in varsity soon in women studies and I'm really excited...We need more feminists in the world i believe especially young one's to change the thoughts...
