Traveling to punta cana in september for my honey moon. I am wondering if there is anything I should be aware of? To my understanding it is not wise to leave the resort or hotel. Any info would be greatly appreciated???

If going on honeymoon i dont think you'll be going out much, if you dont belive me ask your future wife...
now all kidding aside, punta cana is a touristic place, you will only find hotels and discos and souvenirs and art shopping around, there is no need to go outside the hotel, cause there is nor much to see around. the hotels are great, and the beach is wonderfull. you can always take tours, from the hotel or buying it to a travel agencie, there are tours to Saona Island, and also Chavon y cueva de las maravillas, from hotels they always have safaris around the area.
in the hotel there are motorized sports windsurfing, kayaks, etc. so don't worry, you'll have a lot to do.

THe all inclusive we stayed at had organized tours off the compound property. It is fine to go on them. If you are an experienced international traveler who speaks spanish it would probably be ok to leave the compound but you are taking risks since you don't know and there are folks on the lookout to con or rob you. plus for example how will you be transported? it's not like there is a cab on every corner. and you have no car etc. inside the compound was all we needed. I would recommend bringing lots of "little dresses" i wished i had more. lots of swimming suits. books to read, or your needlework, whatever you do to relax. it was the most relaxing vacation i ever had.
