I need some info for a mini case study I'm doing for GCSE geography. I've tried googling it but all that comes up is a load of technical stuff which I don't understand and isn't particularly relevant. Does anyone know anything about this topic?

Start with a look at urban-rural migration on bitesize, so you know exactly what you need to think about.

You now need to apply these theories to Peru.
Here's a tiny bit about the situation in Peru:
Poverty in Peru is deepest in remote rural areas. Millions of Peruvians – more than half the country’s people – struggle to survive, making out an existence below the poverty line. Close to one fourth of them live in extreme poverty.

Lack of opportunities for rural people have caused a massive migration to urban areas, where market activity offers poor people opportunities for survival. Three out of every four Peruvians live in urban areas. The majority of Peru’s poor people live in and around Lima, the capital.

People born in Lima can expect to live almost 20 years longer than people born in the southern highlands. Urban dwellers can earn 30 times as much as poor farmers. Although poverty affects both urban and rural people in Peru, the deepest poverty is rooted in rural areas, where it is a structural problem and where food insecurity is chronic in most communities.

You need to expand on this and discuss the effect of this migration. What happens when these people reach the city? Is poverty in the city increasing? Do people lack basic services (water, sewage works) and is the city growing too fast for planners to keep up? The following link will take you to a web page that will tell you a bit about the shanty towns of Lima. That's just a bit to start you off, Good Luck.

The other answer is excellent. However, it may be easier to do just one city. To find one, go to Wiki and look up Peru. there is a list of cities there that are listed on Wiki in their own right - have a look and find one that you find interesting (or proves your point!). Once you have found one, you can then do more research on that town. (Paita and Sullana seem to fit what you want - but you will need to do more work!)

Good luck!
