what kind of computer are you using? that may be the problem.

I turned my anti-virus off temporarily..then did the download and it worked.

I Also made sure to close out the current version of iTunes while I was downloading/installing the new one.

it worked for me after that. Prior to that I had tried 3 times

If you do what Rayster is saying (sorry Rayster) you might lose all your music.

The new download will remove your old iTunes, so you don't have to do that manually

Ok youneed to uninstall itunes then go to download.com and download itunes 7.0

you have to turn off your anti-virus scan and that should work. if it doesn't work, sometimes you need the latest flashplayer or adobe reader to make it work
