Overall about 40% have publicly expressed dissatisfaction.

You can bet that if this becomes a trend, it has the potential to change a lot about what happens in college classrooms. The students are going on-line to rate their professors and some of it is not pretty. Morning Meeting reader Kara Rhodes, the Education Reporter for the Erie Times-News localized the story. She wrote to me, "Judging from the number of ratings given to Erie professors following my story it connected with younger readers."

Kara's story said, "College students can take aim at their professors on a website dedicated to the public review of classroom performances. 'If I was tested on her family, I would have gotten an A,' reads one posting on the website, http://www.RateMyProfessors.com/.

"While the web-site's founder says more than 60 percent of the ratings are favorable, some local college professors have been pricked by nasty barbs.

"'Save yourselves if you can!' reads the posting for one Edinboro University of Pennsylvania professor. Students can weigh in with ratings on the difficulty of a class and the helpfulness and clarity of a professor.

I'm a bit disappointed. I was expecting much more when I initially considered my current university. I find that some of my professors adopt teaching styles that facilitate passing exams rather than actually learning. I didn't choose my study areas in order to simply ace them and move on. I really think better techniques should be employed.

I've considered transferring. Hopefully that works out well :).

I am.. Most of the prof. I have had just ramble.. Prof. don't have to take any classes to learn HOW to teach like regular teachers and u can tell that. Most prof. (especially if they r tenured) will get their money whether u pass or fail so most don't care.. I had a prof. who did this: I was enrolled in INTRO to chem.. He got up the first day and started this: "if u remember from hs chem..BLAH BLAH BLAH " and then from there started in with things that ONLY graduate students would know.. Most people that are in INTRO chem haven't had it in HS or they would be in CHEM 1..etc. For the money and time it takes, I have been throughly disappointed.. Students are just "a number and money " to them..

I use to want to be a vet. But then I got to college and I realized I couldn't sit through four years of nothing to get to what I really wanted. I was sitting in an animal science class my first semester of college and they were going over how many compartments a cows stomach has. I learned that in my first year of high school. It was a total waste but this time I had to pay for it.

Some of it is incredible- my department has access to some top of the line equipment in my field, and the chance to learn on it has been priceless. Other parts of it I totally agree with you- either pure common sense sold at a thousand bucks a quarter or pure academic masturbation that only amuses the professors.

You should consider transferring to a smaller school with smaller classes where there's more interaction between/among the students and the professor.

I agree with you for the most part. I remember one lesson from college because my prof. cared enough to make it fun and interesting. I went to school to be a social studies teacher. I learned everything about teaching from my peers during the last 11 years of teaching! College was a waste and just a piece of paper.
