You could count the beginning of the War as Hitler's invasion of Poland at the beginning of September 1939, and then the end of the war would be after Germany surrendered in May 1945 and Japan surrendered in Aug 1945 (not Nov 11 -- that is the ending date of WW One! 11/11/1918)
However, I think it is more reasonable to consider what happened before and after - like, the war in Asia really started when the Japanese invaded China and Korea in the 1930s, or when the Germans took over the Sudetenland... And the war didnt really end until the fighting in China stopped, and that wasnt until 1947-49. So in one sense you could say that the war lasted from the early 1930s until the late 1940s.
The USA entered the war a couple days after the Japanese sneak attack on the US Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Dec 7, 1941

from 1939 until 1945. Hitler increased his demands until September 1st, 1939, when he invaded Poland. Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Germany. This marked the start of World War 2.

simply by fact the tip od WW2 international locations now not look vulnerable to declare official states of war yet on the time this replaced into basic prepare. whether the hostilities optimum as much as the war easily began formerly then WW2 is customarily seen to have all started on Sept1 1939 while Germany Invaded Poland from the west and, some days alter, the Soviets invaded Poland ( and Latvia , Lithuania, and Estonia) from the east. WW2 ended on Aug. 15, 1945 while Japan signed renounce papers. Germany had already signed renounce words in April of 1945.

(first of all: please excuse my bad english) one additional information (if needed): hitler and his political fellowers got the power in 1933 already. for six years he was pushing nazi-ideology on one hand but economical and consequently social development as well (except everything concerning race of course) before nazi-germany invaded poland. the economical development was based on the preparation for war. in addition he built the first freeways in germany and developed an well-working school system (concerning support and possibilities to move up - for arian ("real german") people). that's why to a certain extend he could tighten his position so quickly and had a broad support among the people. towards the end more and more people got behind the lie and tried to reveal it, even though it was already too late. he commited suicide in his own bunker, when the soviets were already around berlin.
