All right, now I'm curious about this. Do you only give thumbs down when you know an answer is wrong or do you do any of these:
-Give others thumbs down when they answer a question that you answer, because you want chosen as the best
-Give others thumbs down if your answer gets a thumbs down, even if their answer is correct
-Give people who say the same thing as you already said after you posted thumbs down
-Give members you dislike thumbs down

Anything else? What do you do?

I give "thumbs down" if they have made a stupid (e.g. racist or sexist) comment in their answer or it's obvious that they have no idea what they're talking about. For example, someone puts "I don't know" then I give them a thumbs down because they're wasting our time and yahoo space with a worthless answer.

It was supposed to be a way of avoiding having a dozen answers that say the exact same thing. If I read a question that is interesting and see that someone already said what I was going to say, I give them a "thumbs up." then I dont' answer and take up space saying what's already been said.

A thumbs down can mean two things. It can either mean that someone didn't like the question or answer or it can mean someone doesn't like the person who posted the question or answer. There are trolls who will give a "thumbs down" to every answer you post if they don't like you. Even if your question is just like the person's below you, a troll with "thumbs down" you and "thumbs up" the other person.

If you have say 3 "thumbs up" and the person asking the question chose you as "best answer" then you get 3 bonus points for having "thumbs up." I don't think the thumbs down has any consequences other than the fact it will be "hidden" from people who have designated they only want to see answers with ratings that have no "thumbs down" or less than 5 "thumbs down." So I don't really care when people give me a "thumbs down."

I only give an answer thumbs down when the answer is wrong or I strongly disagree with the opinion. I also only give thumbs down on a thread that I am prepared to answer myself. In general, I think the thumbs down/up facility is a bit stupid and rarely do it.

I only give thumbs down to belittling stupid stuff, as long as a person is making an effort to answer a question even if it's wrong I have no problem with that.

I give thumbs down when the answer is wrong or just plain stupid. I sometimes give thumbs down just because I don't like the answer. None of those others you mentioned.

there you bypass H! they arrive from human beings like Worstans who in simple terms have no strategies! lol so pay no interest. i individually wish yahoo could do away with thumbs down and easily have thumbs up! it can be a miles extra helpful place. Then human beings could would desire to have a stable verbal arguement as to why they do unlike ones answer. it may convey forth better debate. interior the period in-between, that question replaced into very eye-catching, I regarded at each place that folk have been from, and it made it on extra of a private point. under no circumstances strategies H, with regard to the thumbs!

I give thumbs down when it's a bad answer. Isn't that the point?

I give thumbs down when the answers are either

1. Wrong
2. Way off of the question
3. Stupid answers that are meant to be jokes

I only give a thumbs down if the person

1) didn't address the issue/question at all and just wanted 2 points.
2) puts spam in their answer
3) contains racial slurs

i give thumbs down for wrong answers, or if i feel someone's logic (and prob their conclusion) is against something i hold morally imperative...or if they say something dumb just for two points but it wasn't a cool-dumb but rather a dumb-dumb :) (or if they have a bad attitude)
