(Try the Florida panhandle. It's not a long drive to the rest of the state, and real estate in places like Pensacola is very, very low.)

Titusville, a small community east of orlando has relatively inexpensive homes. There are also some inexpensive condos. It close to the beach and Kennedy Space Center.

Sit on the telephone, call banking institution in the area. Tell them you are looking for "Foreclosure houses and small apt buildings in (define area)".

An attack like this may get you a property with lots of equity in it; or an assumable mortgage. At the very lease you may avoid a down payment.
