People always talk about "selling out".
Does anyone REALLY understand what that means?
If anyone knows anything about the music industry, you would realize that it is not YOU who sells out, but THEM who sell you out.
This is why bands who have the dream of just getting to play their music, touching people with their songs, get so disallusioned with the fame.
Fame is nice to an extent, all young people in this fame driven society crave a little fame. But the dose of fame reality is quite harsh indeed. You can't go to the bathroom without someone reporting on it. Comparing you to this person and that one. Your music becomes misunderstood like you are. They try to pin labels on you. Then they give you ultimatums on YOUR music.
They blow you up into a god when all you wanted was to play music.
Sure, it is true everyone wants to be admired. But no one once they get there realized how utterly painful it can be to lose yourself along the way.
People mistake selling records to selling out.
They mistook Bob Dylan for selling out when he first made Victoria's Secret commercial and then the IPod.
Why can't he do those things? He is allowed. He certainly does not need the money, even his grandchildren's grandchildren are taken care of with his fortune.
It is something different, and people can't stand it.
People are allowed to change and grow and experiment in their lives.
Being creative, one should almost expect it.
No one should be boxed into a label that they don't even give themselves, but the world gives them.
They claimed Pearl Jam sold out. Untrue. Pearl Jam, and all the other bands of that movement were not only swindled and bullied, but labeled and coerced, until what they had set out to do, became something only the money machine wanted them to do.
They all fought against it. It is almost impossible to do what you want to do with your music if you are controlled by the music industry. Even those you think have never "sold out" have done things against their will and desire.
But saying someone sells out is wrong. Because the only way you can sell out is to be false. And Kurt was not false.
He did not committ suicide in order to escape "selling out". He did not committ suicide at all.
That is my opinion, and that of thousands, probably millions by now, who have heard and seen the evidence against suicide.
Kurt would not have sold out, because he was not for sale.
The music industry is fickle and fake. It doesn't mean that all the musicians are.
I dare anyone to become someone in that way of life and then come away unscathed. You can't.

He had untreated bipolar disease and severe abdomen ulcers. He replaced into critically depressed, and he had poor abdomen discomfort which replaced into untreated additionally. So he self medicated with tips from taking drugs to assuage the discomfort, and do away along with his unhappiness. however the heroin purely did the alternative - it purely made his bipolar a approaches worse. He took a huge dose of heroin (plenty it might handicap anybody else from shifting, different than hardened heroin addicts like Kurt replaced into). Then he shot himself interior the pinnacle. that's tragic, and one among these shame he did no longer get the help he mandatory. that's totally no longer likely Courtney killed him, there's no info to help it. All Kurt's kinfolk and pals, which includes Dave Grohl, have faith it replaced into suicide. purely Kim Cobain, Kurt's sister, think of it replaced right into a homicide. Courtney is purely a skank, who at present likes to make funds off Kurt. She'll get hundreds of thousands for a 2009 action picture, Heavier than Heaven, approximately Kurt's existence. do you realize how plenty he might've hated that? He hated Hollywood, and constantly stated he replaced into in it for the music, no longer the money. What whpercentre. RIP Kurt, ILY!

No he would have commited career suicide instead; he hated the success he had and wanted to distance himself from it and the more commerical aspects of the band's music, saying that Nevermind was too glossy and slick. In Utero was a move away from this and i reckon he would have continued further in this direction and become increasingly uncompromising and potentially unlistenable rather than sell out.

The rumour is he killed himself because he couldn't cope with the fame and fortune.
Ironic then, that Nirvana have sold more records since his death, than when he was alive.
He would have hated the fact that Smells Like Teen Spirit has become one of the most iconic tunes of the 90's.

I don't believe that "sold out" is the correct phrase. he would have matured and mellowed as most rebels do as they get older. I don't think he would have lost his edge, but time passes and we all suffer from the younger generation demanding their own identity and their own music/fashion etc. Hard to believe it but he might have just become one of those " rock dinosaurs " older musicians get tagged as, if he'd lived. I guess one way of never getting that tag...is to die? re; John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix...good company Kurt

No, and that was the reason he was murdered. He had just backed the band out of Lollapalooza, costing everyone a huge amount of money. He had to go, it was the only way.
