I don't know what type of guitar I should get. Would it be harder to learn a electric-acoustic, than just an acoustic or electric, i'm planing on teaching myself to play, somehow. I'm ambidextrous, but I think I would prefer a lefty guitar, but they look really expensive, I know you can get a righty and switch the strings to lefty ( which I have no clue how to do). If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it, a lot. I really want to learn how to play, oh and if anyone could suggest a good kind of cheap guitar, you know let me know the brand, model..etc.
Thanks

You can get a squier stratocaster starter pack for like $150, thats an electric with an amp. I recommend sticking with a right handed unless you HAVE to play lefty, it will save you a lot of heartache and money.

I also suggest that you buy Mel Bay's lesson 1 book. Its only like $10. Feel free to email me anytime with questions.

which type to get depends on who you ask. if you start with acoustic it would likely be best to get lesesons and you will learn the traditional way starting mainly with open chords. i started with an electric and taught myself which was pretty easy because i have a good ear for music. i liked learning that way because i learned the songs i wanted to learn when i wanted to learn them and could move easily at my own pace. also an electric is often far easier to play than an acoustic just because an acoustic is mainly played with openchords and harder fingering (with a higher action on the strings meaning you must press the strings harder)

as far as a cheap guitar goes i learned to play on a Fender Squire stratocaster. it's an authentic fender stratocaster but they are made over seas in asia and sell for several hundred dollars less. often you can find one between 2 and 250 dollars, they even have a few custom styles like the Squire Obey series (custom paint, looks excelent)

i highly recomend this guitar because it is the exact same thing as the famous Fender stratocaster, has an Excelent feel to it and nice action and has performed beautfully for all 3 years i've played it

good luck!

I started learning on a classical guitar- wide neck, strings that sat pretty high off the neck. It made my hands very strong, and when I finally started playing electric guitar, it was incredibly easy. I would definitely recommend an acoustic guitar to start- Takamine makes some good beginner models.

How long it takes to learn guitar depends on how good you want to get and how much practice you put in. How good you can get with 1-2 hours a day for a few months depends on what methods you use to practice. There are effective practice methods that will help you make the best use of your time. This course is one of the best. https://bitly.im/aMCqn It's not just about how much you play but how effectively you play that will determine how good you will get.

start learning on an acoustic so that when you can change chords well and have basic skills, playing an electric feels so easy
