I have the Mirena IUD for almost 5 months (4 1/2 months). I have had a period as long as 2 weeks and as short as 24 hours. I have had break outs on my skin (which is normal since I was on other horomones).

I was told when inserted that it can take up to a full year to have your body recognize the hormones as well as the IUD. It's different for each woman that has the Mirena. If you are really concerned then the best thing to do is to call your doctor and talk to them about your concerns or set up an appointment to make sure the IUD is in place the correct way.

I have had the Mirena for 6 months...........although I have a lot of spotting, I haven't had a real period since getting it. I suffered from heavy painful periods before getting it so a little spotting is something I can deal with. No other side effects for me.

I've had mine for a little over a year. My biggest problem has been uterine infections( 4 in one yr) and irregular periods. I have a friend that has had one for 6 months with no problems. I think it is just the way individual bodies deal with it.

I have the same thing. I've had it for almost 4 years now and I have had no problems with it. It's supposed to help shorten the length of days that you are on your period. That doesn't seem right to me. I think you should check it out and ask you OB/GYN. I've attached a source that you can check out.

Good luck!

My friend had it, and she had shorter/better periods while on the mirena, but she got a really bad infection and had to have it removed.
