OUCH!
Well the poor kid is gonna have a tummy ache. But there really is no reversing it now. Just let your MIL know that you do not want your baby to have apple juice at all at this age! You shouldn't be replacing any of their fluid intake with juice until he or she is a year old anyways. I have heard of mothers giving it to them earlier but WOW not that early.

It's not a good idea at all, but if it just happened one time it won't hurt your baby. Your baby shouldn't have ANYTHING at all except breast milk or formula until he or she is at least 4 months old. Diluted apple juice isn't good at this age, either. Or even water (except what you use to mix the formula, of course) because filling up on water could cause your baby to not drink enough milk or formula.
You should ask your pediatrician for recommendations on what your baby should be drinking at this age and when it is appropriate to introduce juice. You might also want to get a book (I used What To Expect the First Year) for general information on things like this.
If your mother in law won't listen to you, you may need to have her talk to your pediatrician or show her the information in a reputable book. In the past it was common to give babies other foods when they were younger, and a lot of people from her generation still don't know that's not recommended, but we now know that's not good for them.

A one month old should have NOTHING but breastmilk or formula. Their body is not prepared to digest anything else. Apple juice is also not a "complete food" like breastmilk or formula. Baby will not get enough nutrients or calories from it. This could mean baby might not gain weight as he is supposed to. It could also cause a diaper rash. Feeding baby anything other than breastmilk or formula prior to 6 mos of age increases the risk of allergies, diabetes and obesity. Hopefully no damage is done from this one time, but NO MORE JUICE even if it is diluted, until baby is 6 mos of age.

you would be able to offer diluted juice, yet ascertain this is pasteurized (maximum juice is) and be certain to not furnish better than 3-4 ozper day. If the toddler stops taking sufficient breastmilk/formula then do away with the juice. whether I actual do not see why you may elect to furnish juice. Juice isn't extraordinarily stable for you, this is terrible for enamel and now could be relatively the time to coach stable lifelong eating conduct and water is usually a a approaches better option than juice. My son is 17 months previous and easily gets something different than water in his sippy cup 2-three times a month.

I don't think there will be lasting physcial harm but watch out for extremely messy diapers. I'm not sure babies are supposed to have any juice, diluted or not, at that age. I can't remember when I started feeding my son juice (he's 12 so I'm a bit out of practice) but I know he didn't start cereal or baby food until 3-4 months.

so as everyone else has said, yes its too early for giving it anything but breastmilk/formula. I was reading at the hospital that even as toddlers you should only give them 1 glass of diluted juice a day coz the sugar does... well something, I cant remember now! Tell her that you will take care of the feedings and stuff, and if she wants to give teh baby something to ask you first. You are its mother, not her!

Probably some gas and maybe some vomitting but one time wouldn't do anything serious. NO juice is needed or recommended until at least 5-6 months old. Just explain it to your mother-in-law....I know sometimes they are a pain and I am sure you'll get the "well, it was fine with my kids, they're healthy" speech like I always get....but ah well! Good Luck!

My LO's Pediatrician said that I can give my son 1oz juice + 1 oz water because he was having a little trouble with going to the bathroom. That was just before he turned 1 month. I dnt give it to him often. I gave it to hik 1x that week. I guess it all depends. I haven't had any problem so far.

Yes its very bad. Apple juice is extremely acidic and not only does drinking it give me a killer stomatch ache its going to hurt your babies stomach badly too. There is to much suger in there as well. IF my mother in law every did something so stupid she would not be watching my baby period. apple juice now...some other crack pot thing later..and some foods like honey are deadly to infants under one. YOu should keep that lady away from your baby unless you are there.

My worst nightmare! I am so scared my mother in law will do stuff like this. Yeah, baby should not have apple juice yet. I would definitely have to address this with her, or let my husband do it, so that nothing like this will happen in the future. Wow - I just can't believe she did that!
