I know that cats are a problem for new born babies, but is it a problem if a dog licks a baby? Not repeatedly, but if the dog licks the childs hand or foot, or face.

I saw this once on the discovery channel. There are cleaners in the dogs saliva that automatically kills the germs, making a dogs mouth the cleanest around. Sounds yucky, but I asked my vet and he agreed. So, I would say that a dog licking a kid is ok.

the reason cats are a problem is because they smell milk on the baby's face and decide to lick it. A cats lungs are more power full then a baby's and it can end up sucking the air out of the baby's lungs. The cat does not mean t hurt the baby and its not the cats spit that hurts the baby.

Dogs licking a baby is fine. My new puppy licked my sister in law new baby the other day.
My boston is always licking my kids and so does our pug pup. just watch the dog and the baby together. you never want to leave a dog and a baby or child alone together for the safety of the child and the dog.

The worst that ever happened from a dog licking a baby in my family history is that my dad's dog licked my face and I cried. No worries -- just wash their face or hands so the baby can't stick fingers in their mouth.

Most research will say that a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans. Me personally don't care about none of those things. Dogs are nasty, they lick just about anything and sniff other dogs butts. So yes, it is very unsanitary for a dog to lick a newborns (especially) face, hand, of foot. All of these things goes into baby's mouth.

I wouldnt allow it. I knew someone who had a child that had an actual worm in his eye from being licked in the face by a dog. Who knows what they get into while outside and I dunno about you but I wouldnt let anything lick my child that has licked its a.ss. The hand or foot should be ok but wash it and teach the child to wash their hands after petting an animal.
