Tony was elected to the Hall of Fame today, garnering 532 votes from the 545 ballots that were cast. What I'd like to know is can we find out the names of the 13 idiots who left him off their ballot? Do these dirtbags know ANYTHING about baseball? I'd like to see them try and justify leaving this great player off their ballot. This happens every few years, when a trully great, no-brainer HOF player comes up for election. I mean, what more could the guy have done for the game? .338 lifetime average, multiple gold gloves, eight batting titles, over 300 stolen bases, and get this - only 434 STRIKEOUTS - IN 20 YEARS! There is a legitimate argument that Tony could be the very best hitter of all time. Anyone who makes his living in any way off the game of baseball and left Tony Gwynn off their ballot for the HOF should be canned!
Anyone have an alternative viewpoint to this?

Two people (one being a columnist from a small paper in the south suburbs of Chicago) turned in a blank ballott. Those two should have their rights taken away. All of a sudden reporters and writers are Kings. Those 2 votes could have gone to others who are worthy (Goose, Rice etc).

The rule usually goes that Hall of Fame fathers have mediocre sons. Marginal players have Hall of Fame sons. Tony Gwynn Jr. will be good but right now he is not a quality starter on a mediocre team.

It's possible that no one who voted left him off their ballot. Several writers submitted blank ballots as a statement about the steroid issue (and a few over the continuing Pete Rose saga).

I know for sure that one writer in the Chicago area decided to not vote for anyone because he "wasn't sure who was on steroids and who wasn't." The other 12 I'm not sure about, but that does seem ridiculous that anyone would leave him off the ballot. Even still, you have to respect other people's opinions.

No one has been unanimously elected. Not even Babe Ruth, Mays, Aaron. Seaver was named on like 98.5% of the ballots. There is always some writer who for some reason got a bug up his *** and didn't vote for someone who deserved it.

i agree, espescially being an oriole fan, id like to know who didnt vote for ripken. however, the problem with the voters, is the few who didnt vote for those guys knew they were going to get in anyway (the hall has been preparing for their induction since they bothe announced that 2001 was their last season) they felt like throwing their votes to a candidate who wasnt as sure to get in, someone like goose gossage or jim rice. should the rarity happen and either one of those guys not get in, then of course they would get in in one of their other 14 years of eligibility. that being said, you're right, anyone who voted against such obvious choices should be fired, in fact, i know i wouldnt mind voting, and im sure you wouldnt either. give a vote to the fans

I agree. What was their measuring stick. The guy was one of the hardest out in baseball period. He was a class act from rookie to retirement. Those 13 morons as you say need to justify their reasoning.

I agree completely. I am from Baltimore and if I could have only voted for one this year it would have been Tony over Cal.

Idk if I'd take it that far, but I agree with you, also how could you possibly not vote for cal ripken either?
It has to be like personal bias, somebody that one of them took their job or something
The guy above me is right sorta except only 2 people turned in blank ballots not all thirteen
