Thank you for those of who have already anwered. I have had the IUD for bout 5 years now and have not been irregular with my periods before. It is the copper one if that makes a difference. If I take a home test will I get a clear result? I am now 31 and if I am pregnant this would be my third child. My other kiddos are teenagers now. We are considering having more so of course we will welcome the new addition but I just want hte baby to be safe.

Yes, you can take a pregnancy test and it should be accurate since you are a few days late. The IUD won't have any affect on the results.

If you are pregnant, you need to get yourself to the doctor ASAP to rule out ectopic pregnancy and to decide whether you want to keep the IUD in, or have it removed. Both options do carry risks to the fetus.

If you get a negative result, I would advise waiting a week and testing again just in case you were too early. If it's positive, see above, if it's negative you should still go see a doctor so that you can figure out what exactly is going on.

Although, as long as you're not having any pain or symptoms of an infection, you may just have skipped a period this month. It happens, even with IUDs in place. :)

I had the IUD between all three of my children. Your periods can (and mine always were) be at a different time each month. About the same time each month. But, never the same day. Yes, you can take a test and it will tell you if you are pregnant. The IUD will not mess with the results of a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant it will say. The longer the IUD is in, the better your period schedule will be. I never had the normal 7 day period during the time I had my IUD. My period was about 3 days. Your body may just be going through changes. Stress can also keep you from starting. I had my IUD in for 5 year each time. My children are 5 years apart. I never had any problems with the IUD. Except with the periods never being on the same day. But, if you don't start your period, you may want to talk to your doctor. Hope this has helped.

I had Mirena which is an IUD & your period will be somewhat irregular for 3-4 months, then it may disappear all together. It's completely normal & you are not pregnant.
And an IUD will cause a "false" positive on a pregnancy test. It has no effect on the test at all.
* I didn't realize you had it for so long. Mirena only lasted 5 years. How long does yours last? If this has never happened before, I would consult an ob/gyn. It is possible. I have also heard that it can cause a miscarriage. Best wishes to you all. *

I had an IUD and thought that I was pregnant and took a test and it said neg. If you are or think you are, you need to talk with your doctor and see what they can do to make thing better. Good luck
