2400- 600 for math, 600 for verbal, and 600 for writing (new in 2005)

The highest score on the new SAT is a 2400, with the essay. Keep in mind, however, that many colleges do not take the essay into account, and when they look at your score, they will see it as a "1600" (if you're that awesome). I scored a 2330, and received letters from colleges congratulating me on my "1530".

Both of the above answers are wrong. As of 2005 there are 3 sections to the SAT; critical reading, math, and writing. All three of these sections are worth 800 points, making the entire SAT worth a maximum of 2400 points.

The old SAT is 1600 (800 Math, 800 Verbal) but the new SAT includes writing (800), so the max is 2400.

It used to be 1600 -- 800 for math, 800 for verbal.

The new SAT's highest score, however, is 2400 -- 800 for math, 800 for verbal, and 800 for writing (new section added).
