First, find a book on a subject that you're interested in. Go to a bookstore or library and just wandering the isles for a bit to get the feel of things, helps some too. Do you love Star Trek? There's a whole section based on the various shows. Do you like politics? Pirates? Knights and dragons? Flower growing? My husband and I are both reading Southern comedians right now, (Foxworthy, Larry and Ron White) and we received a couple of those general, miscellaneous knowledge type books for Christmas. One is "Uncle John's Bathroom Book" and the other is "Why Do Men Have Nipples?". Those are easy to read in short amounts of time. Whatever you read, enjoy it! Good luck.

Don't read as a last option for entertaining yourself. It should be a bit tough I guess, because I have been a reading addict since I was 5.It might be difficult to change the habits that have grown already. But just make a conscious effort.
You should start with something very interesting-you might like Agatha Christie,old-fashioned detective stories with psychological twists.Try 'Lord Edgware Dies'.
Alistair Maclean should be good if you like thrillers.Harry Potter should also keep you engrossed, especially the first parts, the fourth and fifth drag a bit.
Hope I helped!

Once you discover reading it is really great. Darren Shan usually gets everyone reading but that is for a teens sort of audience. It depends what you want to get into but The Curious Incident of the dog in the nighttime is quite different from lots of other books and grabbed my attention.

Hmm. I have read all of the Harry Potter books. Good series. Also, The Artemis Fowl series is very good and new books are still being released in it. Maybe try the Shadow Children series? Super good. Any of those three are amazing. I would recommend you read all of them! The Harry Potter books are written by J.K. Rowling The Artemis Fowl books are written by Eion Colfer (I think thats how you spell Eion) And the Shadow Children series is by Margaret Peterson Haddix. :)

First get your eyes checked. You may need glasses and that's why your getting drowsy. Next get a list of the world's or America's greatest literature. There is a reason they are classic, they stand the test of time and are engrossing. Good luck.
P.S. once you start you won't want to stop, and wonder how you'll read them all in your lifetime.

This will sound weird, but get a book on speedreading, or take a course on it. Many people hate reading because their minds go so much faster than they are able to read, so they get bored. (And fall asleep.)
Most people read fewer words per minute than they can speak, but think many more thoughts per minute (or second) than they can speak. Imagine...if...a...person...
spoke...so...slowly...
you...would...get...bored...
That is what happens when active minds read a book. Up your reading speed, and this will not be a problem.
Speedreading is really not hard, and just think of all the time that it will save you, on top of everything else!

Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini. When his best friend, a young clergyman, is killed in a mockery of a duel by an arrogant noble, just to quiet his eloquent expressions of democratic ideals, Andre-Louis Moreau vows revenge. From that point, through meteoric careers as a consummate actor and scenario writer, then as a fencing master, and finally a politician, the brilliant Moreau keeps thwarting the aims of the aristocratic Marquis de la Tour d'Azyr. However, the nobleman causes pain to Moreau as well, and the time must come when the two will meet to settle their enmity once and for all. You are not likely to guess how their confrontation finally turns out. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, this swashbuckling novel is exciting throughout, and it presents one of the most dashing heroes in fiction, a man who can fight equally well with his mind, his mouth, his pen, and his sword, a man who stirs up events wherever he goes.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Anything by Niel Gaiman, he writes for a lot of comic books and graphic novels, so he keeps the "MTV generation" kind of thinker entertained. And drink some coffee.
