Jersey milk output can vary, and it depends on where they are in their lactation, if there is a calf that is also drinking, what types of food and/or hay they are getting. For example, feeding a cow grass hay versus alfalfa hay will reduce the amount of milk given per day by as much as a couple gallons, with alfalfa hay having much more protein. So you could get 2 gallons a day or you might get 5 gallons a day, with the most likely amount being somewhere in between. If you're a small farm selling to individuals, you can easily get $10.00 a gallon for your milk or even more. Where I live I've seen it anywhere from $6.00 to $13.00 a gallon. Check around at the different dairy farms in your area and see what they are charging. And don't forget about the other nice breeds of dairy cows like the Guernsey and Ayrshire. Holsteins are a popular dairy breed but they produce milk with much less cream than Jersey, Guernsey, or Ayrshire.

Amazon.com lists the shipping weight of a gallon of whole milk as 8.76 pounds.
If you're looking for an exact answer.. you could use Density=mass/volume equation.. but since milk is a mixture.. and a very variable one at that (different cows produce different mixtures of fat/protein/water etc.... temperature affects density as well..)

The specific gravity of cow's milk = 1.03 gm/ml
or 1030 gm/liter.
1 gallon=3.785 liters or 3898.5 grams
3898.5 grams = 3.8985 kilograms
1 kilogram=2.2 pounds
Thus 3.8985 kilograms=8.75 pounds
Thus, one gallon of cow's milk weighs 8,75 pounds.

A gallon. Whatever a gallon is a gallon isn't it. I'm sure it is. Can't be a Kilo of acorns and a kilo of potatoes weigh differently can it?
