My 8 week old daughter has a cold. You can tell she doesn't feel well, and want's to be held. The only way she will sleep is in her car seat because she is so stuffy. I have been "sucking out her nose". We were just at the doctor yesterday and she got 4 shots. We have been giving her tylenol to help with the pain. Today she took a bottle at 6:30 AM and hasn't eaten again. It has now been 7 1/2 hours. Is this okay? She has slept through the night but has never gone more than 6 hours. Please help! Should I call the doctor?

She has had a few wet diapers today the last one about 20 minutes. I have tried to give her a bottle and she will suck on it for a while and start crying. I leave her alone and she goes back to sleep. I have a call into the doctor. I am just waiting on him to call back.

You can try going into the bathroom with her. Turn the shower on it's hottest setting, close the door and place her in her car seat on the floor. The steam will help break up some of the stuffy stuff and she might want to take a bottle once it's broken up a bit. You can also try feeding her formula/breastmilk with the dropper the tylenol comes with. It'll take forever but you'll get something in her.

As long as she has a wet diaper every 5 hours or so she shouldn't be dehydrated. If she starts getting dehydrated, just take her to the hospital and ask for an iv for fluids.

I just went through this a few weeks ago. My son is 12 weeks old and had his shots. The first few days afterward he just wanted to sleep and when he was awake, he would cry. She will eat when she is hungry. If she goes the whole day without eating and without any wet diapers, call the doctor. If you think she is uncomfortable, give tylenol as directed. But this is normal for the first day or two.

I have had the same experience with my son.First of all a baby will not let themselves starve,I gave some Salinex spray in his nose and then sucked it out about 10 minutes before i would feed him, this would help.Try taking her for a walk outside,I still do this just to help clear the nasal pasage, keep trying, even if she is getting an ounce or so here and there,if you cannot get her to take any in the next few hours most definatley take her to the docs, they may give her an ng (nasal feeding tube) till she gets better, but do not panick,be there for her.You will both be fine.

Guidelines are just that. It even says, 'Your baby may require more of less than this' on the formula tin. Sounds like you're doing everything right. You're feeding on demand and allowing her to take what she wants. Babies don't overfeed any mkore than they starve themselves- the only time this happens is if the teat is too fast-flowing or they're 'encouaged' to finish a bottle. At 6 weeks shes almost certainly having a growth spurt. Ignore the 'advice' and trust your abilities as a mother. You know her better than anyone. If you think she needs 7oz, then try it, although you may wish to offer smaller, more frequent frreds instead to see if that helps.

Take a breath. I really hope you don't panick. If she hasn't been having wet diapers then you should get her there right away. If she has been wetting, which after so long with out eating I doubt she could be, you should call your dr and make an appointment. If your ever not sure what to do call your dr and ask.

I agree. Babies can become dehydrated very quickly. Call your doctor, that is what they are paid for. Even if it isn't serious, you would rather be on the safe side. It is possible to have an upper respiratory infection, and it only looks like a cold to a parent. Take her in. Don't worry it will be fine. Good luck.

Both my boys were the same way and my little one(7 months) still is. When they are all stuffed up they won't eat for me. My little one almost got dehydrated from it. What helped them was saline nose drops and then i sucked it out. If she still won't drink after you do that then try taking a medicine dropper and dropping formula in her mouth every so ofter so shes atleast getting something. But still call the doctor.

7 and a half hours is a long time for an 8 week old to not eat. I would definately take her in to the doctor again, she may be getting dehydrated.

Do not call the doctor until you try your hardest to make the baby eat. She may be refusing to eat because she cant breath when you give her the bottle. Dehydration is very serious in babies so you need to make sure she eats somethign soon. If she will not eat then yes call your doctor.

If she seems stuffy, take her in the bathroom with you and shut the door. Sit on the toilet or in the floor with her and turn the shower on really hot and steam up the room. The steam might help to open her up. Then she might feel more like eating.

When you say shots, do you mean she had her immunizations? You might call and talk to the nurse and see if she thinks she is having any reaction to them.
