A blind girl walking home thru a park and all her impressions from the sounds around her. Many opportunities for suspense.
Or a man sitting in the dark closet watching his wife cheat on him with his neighbour. Then he comes out, kills them both, goes back into the closet and waits until the police arrive.
An Icelandic housewife who gets depressed by the winter darkness and goes on a shopping spree, only to come back with a million different lightbulbs. She creates her own winter sun in the shape of a shoe and lives happily ever after.
Finally: A boy needs to write a story for his homework but is absolutely in the dark as far as ideas are concerned. Describe all the actions he takes to get around this annoying task.
This is quite an interesting task - whichever subject you choose in the end, have fun writing this! ;o)

Tell a story about a guy who had a homework assignment but was completely in the dark as to what to write about, so he logs on to his computer and asks all his friends on Yahoo Answers what to do and they gave him many ideas. But, there were so many that he lay in the dark all night trying to make up his mind on what to write about so that he had to get up very early, whilst it was still dark to finally complete his homework. Because it was rushed, the teacher was completely in the dark about what the story was really about..... the moral of the story should be not to leave homework assignments to the last minute.....

You could always write a story about something that only happens while the main character is "in the dark" ... perhaps it is a "being" that only appears to your main character at night... or perhaps there is a particular event ie: strange noises, lights flickering, reliving of a past event, etc. that your main character experiences in the evening hours "in the dark". There are a TON of things that you could do to a story with a title of "IN THE DARK"

Here are a few ideas.
1 A story about a man who is so vain and thinks he's the most successful and popular man in town, not knowing that he is universally hated until the very end when he loses everything and then finds out what people really thought about him
2 A story of a little girl who starts to gradually lose her eyesight but instead of giving in to it decides to fight and adapt to her new world of darkness. Just as she goes blind and prays to God, thanking him for her one infirmity when so many people are much worse off, she falls over, bangs her head and her sight is miraculously restored.
3 It is the day before a man's 65th birthday and his final day at work before retirement. No-one has mentioned it to him and all he gets on leaving are a few 'Good luck' comments from workmates. On getting home, however, all his family and friends are gathered for a massive surprise party.
4 The USA gets a new president. For four years he thinks he is in control, barking out orders, deciding foreign policy, dealing with economic crisis and avoiding war. One day his closest aide is killed in a car crash and it is only then that the president realises that during his term it was actually the aide who was making all the decision.
5 Remember the story of the Beatles. They struggled through years of hardship, the four of them, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Peter Best. Two weeks before their first recording contract Pete was sacked and replaced by Ringo. Boy, was he kept in the dark

Ghost story, being home alone during a storm and losing power, walking alone at night, etc. Or you could take it to the next level, and write about being "in the dark" (unaware or clueless) of something occuring in your life/school/socially and you just didn't "get it".
Have fun and be creative!

Try being creative and making the Dark animal like. And so someone is gobbled up by the Dark and explore what happens. The Dark is angry but this someone knows how to help, and resist being digested. :D? I have a good imagination <3

How about a story about the thoughts of a little girl playing hide-and-seek with her brothers and sisters. She is hiding in a wardrobe, where it is dark, but she can see, smell and feel all the stuff in it, and hear her siblings running around outside.
