I was just informed by my fiance and her friend that you arent supposed to do this (or so Cosmo said so) and I'm having a hard time understanding why. So what am I not supposed to wear black socks either? I don't get it. Furthermore, the brown pants actually have a black pinstripe in them. So what does that mean, that pants dont match with themselves?

Normally I would agree and say you can not wear black shoes with brown pants but being that your brown pants have a black pinstripe in them then you most certainly can. A black shirt would tie the whole look together even better. If your brown pants did not have a black stripe in them, I'd say stick to a shoe in the brown family or do a camel or red pump. Your sock color doesn't matter because it shouldn't show anyway. In the event your wearing a dressier shoe where your socks show, wear thin knee highs or dress socks in nude or a color that goes with your pants (for your pinstripe pants I'd do sheer black with black pumps).

If you are dressing semi-formally, you just don't wear brown shoes with black pants. You wear black and navy pants with black shoes and brown pants with brown shoes. I understand your confusion and if your brown pants have a black stripe in them, then I guess the black shoes would be OK. As to why it is not done, who knows? I just remember from the time I was a little girl, my mom said you just don't do it.

Generally, you're supposed to wear black shoes with black pants. I personally am annoyed with people who decide to wear white socks with the black pants and black shoes. However, if you like your outfit, then rock the hell out of it and don't worry about the brown shoes!
