Changing the city's name for that exact purpose is not just. The amount of money it would cost to change the name is too great to justify to the tax payers.
The city itself holds a great respect of history; history that's is deeply ingrained in the natives that are from there. With that said, if we change the name for the reason of separation of church and state, we would have to change every name of every city that holds a religious designation; places like Santa Barbara, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Rosa, Santa Ynez, Santa Cruz, and so on, the estimated amount of money it would take for the state to carry out this plan would be more than what it is worth.
While we are on the subject, why doesn't the federal and state offices work on Easter, Christmas, or holidays of that sort? I will tell you why, America was founded on respect for freedom and religion, although people don't agree with the religious part, the Federal Government will follow the majority rule, as most Americans celebrate Christmas and holidays of that sort, even the atheist - now that's ironic!
I hope this answered your question, I understand where you are coming from so I wanted to give you an unbiased opinion.

You've got to be freaking kidding me.... About half the place names in California would have to go. Including but not limited to San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Clemente. A truly ridiculous question. Something that the ACLU would bring up.

Like the man says, "seperation of church and state" is NOT a law in the United States.
It is a quote, a statement of belief from Thomas Jefferson, not a law.
