I like sci-fi films such as LOTR and I love Terry Pratchett, I also like comedy films and crime films such as the green mile and schindlers list.
Can you give me some suggestions for new films to watch?

By new I mean films I havent seen, not actual new films. Although films made in the last 15 years are preferable.

I know LOTR isn't a sci-fi film. I meant I like fantasy films like LOTR but I also like sci-fi films.

Anything from the Coen brothers.
They have a rather dark sense of humour.
Very atmospheric and quite wry films generally.
The Hudsucker Proxy : Quite feelgood
Barton Fink : Gives me the creeps, but very atmospheric
Fargo : Crime drama based on a "true" story
The Big Lebowski : Every slob's guide to living in the 20th century
Good luck.

Close encounters of the third kind, E.T., Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home (It's the one with the whales and time travel), are some great SCI-FI films within the last 15 or so years.
If you really want to branch out, try a few of the really old movies - a great list of films to reference is the American Film Institutes top 100 movies in 100 years. Here is a link to their list: http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/movies.aspx

There is a good one about to come out on DVD called, "The Long Shot." Its a comedy about what hapens in a bar in the last hour and a half before closing. I saw it when it screened here in Dallas in late November and it was too cool.

The Man Who Knew Too Little starring Bill Murry. It is action with comedy in a crime scene sort of way.
I think you would like "Frequency". Totally cool movie.
