To agree with the Bush administration is to do what they say. There is no compromise or feedback. This attitude has isolated them in foreign policy, and now in domestic policy as well. With that type of attitude, how can you expect anyone to go along with him? If he always did the right thing, people would follow him, but he clearly doesn't. I think lots of Republicans always disagreed with him, but they kept their mouths shut to put on this image that Republicans are organized, which is a more effective tactic than the Democrats use where they publicly contradict each other in terms of policy.

Did you ever hear the term: "They are like rats deserting a sinking ship?" In my mind that's part of the reason. The most obvious is they know how the general population feels about the War in Iraq, and they are trying to protect their seat in Congress. Maybe I'm being cynical, and they are coming to their senses and deplore the waste of soldier's and Iraqi's lives and limbs. Although, I don't belive the majority of Republican's in Congress are against the war, I do believe some are legitimately opposed to it now. And, for those few I say: Welcome back from the darkside!

I think those people who are switching sides (lack of a better term) are just trying to make sure they get re-elected. President Bush is no longer in the favor of the public and those people who want to be re-elected know that backing him will not get them re-elected.

they understand that no matter how hard they try to pin the Iraq war on democrats it is squarely in their laps and they will not have a bright political future as in re-election if they are known supporters now you see they learn fast and november just served to show them which way the wind is blowing

Ta gotta remember they represent a state or at the least a group of people. These people put them in office. The war has changed a lot of peoples opinions. We gotta finish what we got in to. It takes back bone to hold your ground. Even when your morals tell you to do 1 thing money & positions can change what you do. I hope this helps U understand some of the reasons.

Don't you understand? They never were on his side!
Some people - many people - jump on any bandwagon as long as it serves their purpose or allows for them to exist without any making of waves. They are cowards! They 'flip-flop', as you say and they are the worst people to have along in a crisis. They jump ship and leave you to hell.
This is life! Always know who your real friends are before you begin calling them 'friends.'
