Where is this city exactly?
I think that crime may be more common in cities just because with that many people that close together it's easy to slip through the cracks, but there are other things about cities that can be truly wonderful, too. I don't think there are any cities that were founded by stalkers, rapists, etc., except perhaps in former prison colonies such as Australia, or places that used to be home base to pirates, like in the Caribbean. I've never been to Australia, but the time I went to the Caribbean, I felt pretty good.

It is not my preference to be in the city so I moved 5 hours away into the woods. In most rural areas there is less total crime but the population is so much less so actually the rate of victimization is about the same everywhere. Who would have thought those Amish school girls would have been at risk in Pennsylvania out in the middle of nowhere in their private school house.

I consider myself to have good street smarts. I avoid bad areas and never go to places like that alone. Otherwise, I would feel very unsafe. Who wouldn't?
