There doesn't seem to be any problem with it running. The light was flashing at first, but now it is just on. I had the EGR replaced about a year and a half ago, and had a new catalyc converter installed (I bought it without one, don't ask me how it passed NC emissions!) last year as well. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It is a solid light now. No more flashing. It only flashed for about 30 seconds. Nothing running wise feels any different. It started when I started up my car (I had left it in first gear, usually I park in neutral with the e-brake), it kicked a little bit (as it should) since I didn't realize it was in gear. I quickly realized this and put it into neutral/then reverse (I didn't stall the car at all). Don't know if this is relavant, but added these details just in case.

Put a piece of duct tape over the light.

I would have checked the Air breather Filter right away. Second I would see if all sensors were properly seated(plugged in) third I would make sure the gas tank vent(gas cap) is sealing properly. Check the thermial regulator if the EGR has been replaced. After making these adjustments, reset the computer and the light will go off. It might come back on again and if it dose take it to Auto Zone and have them run a diagnostic on it for free, since you'll more then likely buy the part you need from them

have it put on a tester . could just be an 0 2 (oxygen) sensor. no way to tell for sure without testing. here is a trick that i found out wotks. did you reset the cars computer after changing the parts.to do this unhook the battery for a few minutes .when you hook it back up the code should have cleared the computer. try this before getting it tested.it works sometimes. it is like resetting the memory on any computer.and it hurts nothing by merely unhooking the battery terminals.just will have to reprogram the clocks and radio is all. try that it may work and just b e a a code stuck in the computers memory.

first off... is the car still running the same as normal? is the temperature the same? when a check engine light comes on (as others have already said) it means a sensor has gone out. it can be either an oxygen sensor, mass airflow sensor, anything to do with the emissions system, etc... you should be able to find out what the sequence is of the flashing. think of it as morse code. this sequence should tell you exactly what sensor has gone out.

I had one of these cars exactly with the same problem. I took it to my local auto zone and had them check it with the computer. It had had a problem before, that had been fixed (and it was running great) but the computer just needed the codes cleared off of it. It could be as simple as that. After they cleared the codes the light went off and the car ran awesome.

There are something like 350 DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) for the OBD II standard (which any car in the US built after 1992 is a party to), so anyone telling you what they think the code is, is totally full of it. :)
Go to a nearby Autozone. They will scan the ECU with a scantron for free, and tell you the trouble code that was tripped. You can also buy the scan tool for about $150 there. It's called an OBD II scanner.
Good luck.

in reality don't really listen to the people who commented because they cant tell or know exactly what the problem is, because there are to many problems some being minor and some being major, its good if you go get your car scanned at a auto zone like one of the guys said or take it to a garage or a dealer to get it checked out!

the sencors are probably taken out. i have a 06 eclipse and had the same problem took it to my mechanic and said that the rats find the car hot at night so they crawl up under the engen and start chewing on the wires. the insurance paid for it cause it is no ones fault.

They had problems with those and the Oxygen Sensors. But you will have to have it checked with a Multi Use Tester at a dealership.

Flashing is not good. Get to a garage NOW. Just staying on could mean any other nonvital component is throwing a code.
