the material objects I'm attached to I like because they evoke a memory or because of the person who gave them to me. So am I attached to the object or the emotion?
We all want more than we have - but in a fire few would abandon the dog to wrench the flat screen off the wall!
Most people want things because they think a better stereo/PC/car whatever will make them happy - but usually if unhappy it runs deeper than that. Friends and experiences are more important than possessions - when you're old and grey you won't fondly reflect on the radios you've owned, but memories of those you've known and things you've done will keep you entertained

I'm sorry about your psychological problems. I used to feel that way when i had nothing. But its strange how I was a lot happier when I didn't have much and now that I have more I'm a lot unhappy. I feel like materialistic possesions change most people for the worst because you are constanting wanting more. I think you should just focus on fixing your psychological problems first. It sounds like you are channeling your problems in not having things and mixing up what you really need to deal with. good luck

It's not uncommon for a person to desire to have material possessions. In fact, one couls say that this is the "American Way". Feeling down about not having those things that you wish you could is okay. At the same time, you need to realize that at this stage in your life, it is just not possible for you to achieve those things. Hopefully you are able to deal with the issues that you are going through and will return to work. At that time, you will be able to get those things you want. Let this be your motivation to put your all into your mental well being and looking foward to recovery.

It is normal if you get sick and tired of not having some of the possessions you may like to have to brighten your day, so it is inevitable that you'll get down once in a while (or often) about that.
Just try to remember that for now - while you can't work - you'll just have to work on your psychological issues. This isn't a permanent situation, and chances are you'll be able to pick up a thing here or there one of these days.

Don't be down, you have achieved the state that eludes many of us with homes cluttered with material possessions we don't really need. Think of the time you don't waste on cleaning stuff and decluttering! Make the most of it and don't let it add to your problems, make it a positive instead.

Yes, I do but I have had to give up so many wordly possessions for more important things like money and food. They are of this world and they can be replaced or purchased. Save your money alittle at a time and one purchase at a time. Buy used things and shine them up. It will make you feel so good.

The majority of us only work because we own material things.

I get attached to objects easier than I get attached to people. Not a good life.
