IThe Universe is made of structured mass having volume forming the architecture of atoms and materials.
The life of the mass structure is what gives them motion.
The cause of the motion is what Classical physics called the Aether. The substance of the aether was never really understodd even to this day.
So basically the Universe consists of mass and the matter that structures the mass. Today they call this matter dark matter.
They is a theory called the Big Bang Theory . This theory attemps to explains how the Universe became a structure. However; there is no answer to the primorial matter being made from what. This is basically what I assume your question refers to.It Was Einstein that alluded to this dark matter and energy; He described that in his cosmological constant, relating to the field equation of general relativity.

At the moment of the Big Bang, all that is was either matter or anti-matter (called smatter). It is matter and smatter that defines space. So as the matter and smatter expand further and further, space expands further and further. It is believed that there are 11 dimensions now and almost all of the smatter ended up in one of them. A lot of gravity went into yet another dimension. You are well aware of 3 dimensions; length, height, depth. You may know that time and space are the 4th dimension.
