As the old folk song goes;

If Parliament's where you would be
be sure to come from Oxford with a good degree
for then you may, in your accent smooth
persuade the shiftless workers to the polling booth!

you need to join a political party, then you have to be put up as a candidate in a local by-election,or general election, then if you get voted into the house of commons. You can also become an idependent mp by not joining a party, but you will have to pay a £500 deposit to register as a candidate. If you dont get a certain pecentage of the vote , you will lose your deposit.

Chuckes D is completely wrong. He's either ignorant or mis-understood your question.

THEY claim that you have to register your interest at the local office (try the nearest Town Hall), pay your deposit (it used to be £2000) and then prepare your campaign for the next election.

Remember that to be an MP you have to have a Policy, Financial Backing (to get elected), a Thick Skin and have an Integrity Removal session.

Good for you. Well, you need to become a local councillor first. In order to do that, you need to be elected by the local consituency. First, you need to make contacts - get in touch with the local office of the party you want to represent and join as a member. You will get all the info from them once in there. Its not easy, but hope you give it a go!

Firstly you must know how to lie fluently and convincingly. You must be totally untrustworthy and completely unreliable. Secondly, you must bribe your way into being selected for any party in a "safe seat" where you know the electorate will vote for your party without thinking (or understanding) what they are doing. Finally, you must be prepared to line your own pocket with tax payers money (or any bribes you can get).

But if it costs you your soul?

You have to be, or make yourself acceptable to, a major political party, and in particular to the party officials in a winnable constituency. This usually involves lots of work and losing a few hopeless elections just to show willing.

And as Kipling observed: lying helps, but it won't work for ever.
"A Dead Statesman"
I could not dig; I dare not rob;
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

You have to be elected to the House of Commons. The House of Lords is made up of Bishops of the Anglican Church and members of the peerage, and they are NOT elected.

Be able to take a bribe and remember the most important answers to a difficult or uncomfortable question "No comment".
Or change the subject... and if these don't work then denial, denial, denial.
