Let's say you send me an email, and I read it via a webmail server, I could be anywhere and other than the local server logging my IP you would have no idea. Also, if I connect to my webmail via an anonymous proxy, again you have no idea.
So, no, unless you have friends at the NSA, you need more tools and database information to get to specific points which is not available. Assuming they are in their home, you can get CLOSE at least to the neighborhood, but not a specific address.

I know of one method where you embed an image as an html tag, have that image reference a server you control. The server can keep track of the IP address that downloaded the image.

People do not realize that lots of info is being sent with the e-mail address.
We got scanned by a hacker a week ago and we knew within minutes where, what address, what apartment number it was coming from!
Why, the ISP has all the info.

if goto something like http://www.dnsstuff.com u can use this to trace an ip address, but u will only be able to get country, state, isp name etc.
