I found one in country supply(horse.com) that I like and its only $600. I want the saddle for my standardbred who Is my trail/trick horse (he can lay down and sit like a dog and bow) so I need something comfy. I'm looking for a western saddle thats cheap like the one I saw in the catalog and because I dont show western I dont need a fancy saddle just sturdy.

my real question is :
1)have you ever gotten a saddle out of a catalog?? or online?
2)was it what you thought it would be??
3)If I ride in it and it doesnt fit me or the horse or its uncomfortable will they take it back??

I have bought several saddles online before and they aren't always what you want. I have ended up selling them in the classified ads (its just easier than dealing with online companies) and they generally go for what I asked (what I bought them for) and then I just try again. After a few tries I find one I like, but then it does take time to break in. I have had luck on the first try, but you can't be sure of anything. And you should know your seat size before you order. Also, another hint, get your girth strap in person at a store so you know it is what you need. Good Luck!

I have bought both English and western saddles from catalogs. It's important to know your seat size and the size of your horses withers. If he's narrow, a catalog saddle might not fit. As far as returning it, it depends on the seller. Some sellers will let you try the saddle on your horse, with protection from dirt, and return it if it doesn't fit. This is expensive in shipping costs though. If you're not riding your horse extensively, like just for pleasure and not competition, you're probably OK with a catalog bought saddle. Make sure it doesn't say narrow or extra wide.

I buy things from them all the time but I would not get a saddle unless I had sat in it the very same one at a tack store and could see it before buying it.
The fit is easier with a western than an English. You can pad it more and they only come a few sizes in the bars.
So fit should not be to bad. But I would want to make sure the saddle was comfortable before buying one.
Do you have any tack stores close to you that carry any of that makers saddles that you could see?
I am not sure on the return policy on saddles it is different with each manufacturer.

I do a lot of online shopping, but I could never buy anything online that I was going to sit in. One time when I was opening a new business and buying furniture for my office, I spent two and a half hours in an office supply store sitting in various chairs, and resitting in them, trying to narrow it down to one that really fit my butt comfortably. I am really particular about that, since it's where my butt will spend the majority of its time.
I think the key to know is whether or not they will take it back, and that can only be answered by that particular company. Ask up front.

Yup I sure have. It is easy, although the shipping costs are sometimes the kicker
2) yeah, it was just the way they said it would be
3) I to bought my saddle from country supply, and they do take it back and refund it, or replace it if it doesn't fit you or your horse
