It's this generation's version of rebellion. Every generation had them, this is theirs. To the kids, goth and emo make them different and rebellious, and the true meaning of the movements (although I'm not sure that emo really has a reason, but goth sure does) is lost to them. For 99% of them, its a phase, as being punk was for me ten years ago. In this world where everyone is connected yet simultaneously alienated, its understandable that teens are upset and depressed over the world. Therefore, they're attracted to groups where they can relate their alienation and dissatisfaction, which they term goth and emo. For the record, teen goths and adult goths have almost nothing in common.

Because alot of us young people go to those stages to have others understand them and to understand others as well. They show their feelings more than the others because the others are scared to show how they really feel when the goths and emos are like I don't give a s**t whether you don't like the way I feel or not.
