That would be A: responsible so you don't let the kids have dog races in the classroom B: knowledgeable so the kids don't make you look bad and C: patience so you don't throttle the students.

Hi there well to answer your question I have to say being a teacher is an art form.I retired as a Special Ed.Teacher and yes you do have to have patience because if you don't you will be upset at everything a child does.Oh yes knowledge of course because kids ask the darnest things.I would tell my kids everyday Knowledge is the Key to Success beleive me they learned that much if nothing else.To be a teacher you have to also have a caring and understanding spirit and charater so you can distiqush which child is needing more help and which is just pulling your leg.Good Luck..I retired at 50 because I was burnt out..Not from the kids per say it was the system(principals, teachers mettings etc..)

OK. I am a foreign language teacher. I need to know about the language I am teaching. BELIEVE ME- you do NOT want me teaching a math class! I do not have the specific skills needed to insure that my students deveop and learn what is needed before moving on to the next level. You could have the most patient, responsible, and generally knowledgable person imaginable in a classroom, but if they know nothing about what they are teaching, it does the students absolutely no good.

Ability to captivate and control an audience of often immature and unmotivated children.

Assertiveness skills a must you will get nowhere if they do not respect you and they wont give you this automatically. You also need to be incredibly observant, organised and inventive. You need strong verbal communication skills and the ability to project your voise without shouting.

You need to be career motivated and content to work almost continually through your breaks and at home. Lesson Planing and marking take serious time if you do it properly.

It's pretty much a thankless job nobody will appreciate the effort you put in but yourself and the pay is unreflective of the qualifications required.

Would you rather have an impatient, irresponsible, and unknowledgable teacher teaching your child? Or anyone's child for that matter? A teacher's job can be very stressful and there's a lot that goes into being a teacher.

One is so you can gain respect from the students. Then another is so you can teach the students.
