the begining of the 1900s, or maybe the end of the 1800s because in the next book (the lion, the witch and the wordrob) it is ww2, and diggory is an old man. They are also still using horse and carts in "the magicians nephew"

It takes place before the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (which was set in the 1940s during the war); it was probably in the early 1900s. The Narnia scenes are a different place and time, and occurred at the creation of Narnia.
