Most schools require 4 sem.. or 2 sem of intermediate.. I know it sucks.. In that time I could have taken 10 hours or more of the classes actually needed for the degree.in my case social work.. I know that knowing another language may be important but I do think it's a waste of 2 good years.. If people want to live here, they should speak ENGLISH or not talk to us.. I had to change to a totally different school and major to keep from taking a foreign language.. Well rounded is BS.. How many people will actually remember history or fine arts.. It's just a way to add 2 plus years to a degree so the college can have ur $. I would learn a HECK of a lot more which I would actually use if they would forget the SHI-t like History and allow us to take courses in our major..

This happened to my husband. He transferred from a school with no foreign language requirement to one that had a requirement. They let him enter, but he had to complete 2 years of Spanish before he could graduate. Is this possible for you? You may want to talk to someone in admissions at UCF and see if they'll allow you to enter without the foreign language, and take it while you're a student there.

In Texas to get an Associate's you have got to take a Speech magnificence, but when you're transfering to a University from a neighborhood institution you don't ought to take speech, you'll be able to take a language magnificence 1301 or above. I have no longer heard of a international language magnificence being obligatory. I might assess with the university instantly to look what their requisites are, it possibly required if you're going into an International measure software.

You can test out of a language if you know enough of one. Also if you decide to get a BS instead of a BA there is usually less of a language requirement (but more math and science) You just got to play the game my friend.

In most European countries they start learning languages in middle school. We tend to take for granted that other people will learn English so we dont have to learn anything at all.

I thought it was four years of a foreign language or arts? But then you just switched the subject to comp class which has nothing to do with language.

Some colleges find it important to produce well-rounded students. Also, admissions is getting more and more competitive and they need to create more admissions guidelines to make it easier to weed out students.
