NOTE: Please do not misunderstand me -- I am NOT saying you should "floor it" or drive unsafely -- I'm just saying that when there are 50 cars waiting behind you, it is obliviously rude and cruel to "lazily" react to a green light--especially for a left-turn arrow.
You know the a--holes I'm talking about? The ones who allow about 8-9 car spaces to expand between them and the car in front of them before they actually proceed thru the intersection.
I'M HAPPY TO BE PATIENT, BUT YOU CAN ALSO BE CONSIDERATE OF THE 50 PEOPLE YOU'RE HOLDING UP BEHIND YOU.

This has nothing to do with running late -- this has to do with being inconsiderate and oblivious to others.
I always leave early so I don't have to get angry about these things -- but the question remains: Why do people do this?

One of the most unfortunate facts is that there are a large number of drivers out there that don't take driving seriously. They are usually trying to multi task and are on the cellphone, reading, or changing CD's during these traffic stops. They are inconsiderate drivers who really don't care about what delays they cause while they are doing their "own thing".
With our liberal licensing policies we allow people who really are not adequately trained to take the wheel and cause havoc on the roadways of America. If your mindset is "ME" than you really don't pay attention to what other people are doing and these people are usually shocked when some angry driver gives them the gesture or yells at them.

It doesn't matter how much complaining we do it will always be this way. Even if there was laws against it, there would still be people that do it. Personally I think it's a big cause of road rage. These are the same people that stop at the end of an on ramp when they have a quarter of a mile to merge. Then they drive in the fast lane 10 miles an hour slower than the slow lanes. step on the brakes when there is nothing in front of them, pass you and then slow down,

Yes, yes we could go on and on. My solution was to move to a town with no traffic signals. It's fantastic driving to work and seeing maybe 50 cars on the road instead of thousands. the nearest free way is 50 miles away.
ok I'm done :)

These people are not so much jerks as they are poor drivers. A very important part of driving is being aware of what is happening around you. This means that when you are waiting for an left turn arrow if you are at the front spot you are aware that there are others behind you that need to turn also so you don't wait to go, you go as soon as it turns green and is safe. I believe that being aware of what others around you are doing and what is happening is something that is severely under emphasized and deserves much more attention from driving instructors.

gas financial gadget and protection motives. some semi could be taking place the line you're approximately to circulate and if the gentle variations however the truck is devoted, the truck will run the gentle. And wager what happens to you? T-boned by applying a semi. as properly you in basic terms suggested "while the gentle turns green I constantly look midway to the subsequent gentle earlier the different drivers even know it quite is replaced." so which you race to the subsequent gentle, and take a seat there waiting for it to alter, and by applying the time its green returned, all those human beings have already caught up.

Perhaps the person is being safe trying to ensure no cars are coming to run the light. Or they may be older and have slow reflexes. There's no law that says everyone has to drive as fast as they can just because the next guy is inconvenienced. Take a chill pill and leave earlier to get where you're going. You'll live longer.

I do it just to piss you off. I got up the other day and said to myself, self....t_o_w_e_r is going to be on the road today. Let's stop at that intersection and make sure he's behind us. Then when the light turns green.....sit there. Then just as it turns yellow, take off and leave him there.

Because they are too busy looking 3 seconds into the future to see if their vehicle will clear the intersection, knowing your road rage will be directed at them if they don't.

They might be day dreamers. They don't realize that they have 50 people behind them.

you sound like an out-RAGE-eous driver. ever see an accident at an intersection 'cause somebody jumped to a start as soon as the light turned green? the other guy might be trying to beat a yellow light.
