It gives you a reference point for aiming. Just as important is the use for adjusting your shot. If you hit your aiming spot and miss the 1 and 2 pocket (for right handers) then you can adjust your aim or starting position to compensate for the miss.

I use this arrows to line up my feet and depending on where the bowl goes I will move my feet based on these arrows. The arrows on the lanes are used for something to shoot at or your mark. You should pick a spot and also throw your ball over that spot.

that is for spot bowling, it is easier to see where you drop the ball than to look ll the way down the lane to the pins. use the arrows for accuracy
