They are made to haul larger quantities of material from one location to the other (typically over 100km). They are made for various purposes, typically categorized by tonnage that can be hauled. In India trucks haulage varies from 8 tonnes to 40 tonnes (the trailer Volvos are the largest)
Diesel trucks are also the most economical method of transportation, ever since the railways raised freight charges a few years ago.
