As far as movies are concerned, the industry in the south is hampered by the fact that no one but the locals understand the language. That said there are a few movies that are famous up north as well. Generally speaking, bollywood movies are very slickly produced, with tamil and telegu movies following in production quality, and these collectively are miles ahead of any other regional film industry. But generally speaking also, many north indians have their own parochial notions of aesthetics (linked to skin colour) and do not consider those from the south good looking enough, though the converse is generally not held as true.

India's problem with the national language being Hindi is two fold
1. those who's mother tongue is Hindi or are fluent in it have a distinct advantage in acceptance, and dont find it necessary to know another language.
2. Hindi as a language has the words of the arts and the words of technology - something that most other languages in India do not support colloquially. This makes Hindi and Urdu speakers snooty towards other languages, especially those from the south.

You could argue that there is a case for a split India. But it is in this very difference that we find variety in our everyday lives. The best part of the place is being able to travel, or even just go to work, to see and meet totally different kinds of people. In the struggle for supremacy and economic sops from the centre the north, west (not to be confused with North) and south are in healthy competition.

If we split, we'd all be consigned to eternal boredom like in the other developed countries.

No. it wont stop there. The south east would want to separate from the south west and so on....At last each family would want to be treated as a separate country. Even then they would not be satisfied, Brother will fight with brother for separation and dividing the family property.
It would be better to be united, The national stage is set. We should work hard to succeed and ensure that there is competitiveness and fairness throughout India, and only the best win always.

What you say maybe correct, but that is no reason to divide the country into two. If we keep applying your idea, then India will go back to the days when it was a number of small kingdoms.

Things are different, that's what makes India all the more wonderful. Erase the idea of dividing the country for it will not help anyone even you. You will just create more hatred in your heart.

I'm not sure it would make such a difference. Even if North India and South India were to be separate countries, they would both still be very diverse, with lots of different languages and cultures and religions.

I suppose if you made the split along language families, you could divide India into a primarily Dravidian state and a primarily Indo-European state.

But honestly I'm not sure this is necessary.
I think India is strong because of its diversity.

No one in south India likes to have a seperate nation. But certain atheist political parties of E.V.R (DK,DMK) thought on to make south India a seperate country. But in vain, their plans were boomed, thanks to Keralites, Kannadigas and telgu people these fraction of people dont resort to their plan and they have the thought that they are Indians. Dont mind colour of the skin, Well you forget about south Indians impact Infosys Narayana Murthy, is a dravidian, Aiswarya rai and sri devi all are pakka south Indians but we dont feel that they are from south. And our rich Keralite brothers who very large number in Gulf they represent India not south India.

Only those people (ruling parties of TN) who dont like Hindi , Aryans, Sanskrit think of making south India a seperate state.

Bottomline:- Kamal Hassan has a greater International impact, when looking into statistics even I fear Amitab must be a second runner; when he was at a peak time at the age of 30 he had a film experience of 23 years! now just calculate..

Let the South Indian States settle their inter-state disputes and then make a common cause for a separate nationhood. There is no such thing as a South Indianness so as to warrant the talk of a separate nation for them.

We r all indians... only language is different...yes i agree with one guy here who answered to ur question that most of the guys look for fair skin... while getting married to a girl in india... but in US it is the other way that they like brown skin... but hey! i am not against to anybody here... i am just sharing my experience with u guys!!!!!!!!!!!!! But remember we r all like brothers and sisters and most importantly we r all proud to be indians... There is no need to divide north india and south india.....Thanks for listening to my opinion...

We are talking about uniting Indian subcontinent and this kind of thinking is not good. South Indians have started making their mark in national politics and policies.

What is required is to eliminate religion and caste from our mindset and unite as Indians.
