Depends in what context...
In Belgium: My mom's hairdresser. And the 80's.
In South America: there it means "little Ana" and it just sounds very cute to me...

One of my two best friends in the whole world is named Anita. She is a beautiful person inside and out. Shes like my sister, I can tell her anything. Shes always willing to lend a hand and shes always the first person at the scene of a disaster in your life. Shes the one you call in the middle of the night to cry to, and she always knows the right thing to say to make you feel better. She doesnt always agree with you, but makes you understand why she feels that way, with out making you feel wrong. Shes a strong person, married to an Airforce man, has a 1 year old and is 4 months pregnant with another one, and never even thinks about taking a moment to breathe. Everyone else comes first. SO Anita makes me think of beauty, love, friendship, and strength.

It reminds me of a very nice old lady that I used to know when I was a little girls. She was my father's Godmother and was very sweet. She even remembered by mother in her will when she died (my father died before she did). I think old fashioned names are wonderful. I have a son named Georges and a son named Andrew (there are way too many Andrew's though). I think Anita is a nice name....like Claire or Mary or Molly. Though Anita could be used in jokes like "I need another glass of milk." Pretty harmless.

I think of my mum (who is such a wonderful person), her name isn't Anita, but her mother was planning to call her that until she eventually changed her mind and named her something else. I think the name Anita would have suited her perfectly. Obviously, you can't say the name makes the person, but sometimes you just see someone and know what name just fits with them. I have a friend called Anita who i met a few months ago and i have to say i'm very glad to have met her; she's such a lovely person and someone who i deeply respect. Thanks for your question...it's very original! :-)

yes, anita means little anna. but, even more interestingly, it is a form of the name innana. innana was an ancient sumerian goddess, revered by many in the 3rd millenium b.c. she was considered extremely powerful and benevolent, and is even remembered and honored by quite a few wise people, still today. spending a bit of time researching "her" might prove fruitful. ;-)

Bug lady.
Anita is married to a friend of mine and she puts jeweled insect barrettes in her hair.
So we call her "Bug Lady"
