I assume you mean 2 physical processors, like 2 chips.
Today the benefits are really non-existant, since we have dual core chips.
Example, AMD just took out their version of quad core, which is 2 dual core cpu's, running in tandem. But the Intel quad core chip is still faster all by itself.
disadvantages : You have more noise since you have more fans, you have more heat being produced, more power being consumed and it will cost you more money for a 2 processor setup.
Stick with a chip that has 2 cores in the cpu.
I suggest the Intel : 6300 Core 2 Duo. Amazing chip.

I can't think of any disadvantages. If it's a core duo, core 2 duo, or AMD X2, they run cooler, use less energy, can truly handle multiple processes at once (Symmetric Multiprocessing or SMP), multithreaded games are faster, and it's the newest and best processor technology. I guess a disadvantage might be that with an application that only uses one processor, it can, depending on the app, run a little bit slower than some of the faster single core processors. But that's if you are only running one app at a time or are running an app that only uses one processor and has to run for a really long time like a large file compression.
If you have to choose between single and mutli-core processors, go for the dual processors.
