No not her alone, but congress as a whole, can.
Most Dem's voted for the war, and I supported it personally but it was based on false and misleading information.
Now later we see that we were mislead as a nation as to the reasons for going to war. The nation, who in general I believe supported the invasion also has seen the deception and voted Democratic in November.
The reason was to give congress power to override the endless spending, breaking of constitutional law, going unchecked because of a majority Republican Congress.
The blank check comment refers in general to the Republican majority in congress, who, until this point had complete control and gave the President whatever he wanted without question.

Another "buzzword" or "catch phrase", easy to remember when chanting around the campfire. Just another political posture that sounds impressive and yet means nothing. Congress approved this war based on the same info the President had and now the weak sisters are back pedaling crying and moaning that it's too hard to do the right thing and finish this.

Because she and her party want a blank check to spend on pay raises for themselves and more social programs that do nothing for the United States except get Democrats re-elected. The war is cutting into their budget, and now that they have the majority they want to control the dollars so they can get a Democrat into the White House in 2008 and more liberal judges (who believe they have the right to set policy when they don't) on the bench.

First of all, nobody "voted for the war." Congress voted to give the president the ability to use force against Iraq if it was necessary. Of course, it turns out that it wasn't necessary and was based on a pack of lies. Secondly, the cost of the Iraq war has not been included in the budget. Since the war is costing us billions of dollars and may top a trillion, don't you think the responsible thing to do would be to include it in the budget? By saying no more "blank check," Pelosi is calling for sanity and oversight in this debacle that Bush and Co. has created.

I think she is referring to funding the continuation of the war. I think she wants costs accounted for not just blanket hundreds of billions.
I can't say I disagree with the principle, although it may be the only thing on earth I agree with her on.

They will ask questions about the need for additional spending in Iraq. They want the administration to justify spending additional money in that country.

Because the Republican-led Congress handed King George the nation's checkbook while they checked out!

why wouldn't she say that? we need accountability on this war. On what is being spent and where it is being spent. She did not say that they would not fund Bush's war, she simply said, "show me where the money will be spent''. nothing wrong with that. it is a good thing.

It probably has something to do with a little thing called "fiscal responsibility" - something that's been lacking for the last 6 years.
