Well High school seemed to me to be about impressing others instead of yourself. What I mean usually impressing yourself is about doing well and getting good grades. In impressing others you attempt to be "cool" and get worst grades then if you were paying attention in class or doing your homework instead of partying. In fact I believe its a choice--most people who are "cool" in high school STAY at that point in their life always trying to stay/ go back to that time because that is there most influential time in their life. Where people who go on in college or even other programs find more opportunities to excel and become a more substantial and fulfilled person.

There are two sources of pressure.
1] Your high school performance will determine whether you can get into college and get a good job when you get out.
2] You are going through puberty which means you are just learning to be social. Without the context of an adult life to look back on it everything in High School seems very, very important. It's hard to believe this in your gut but....most of the people you know today will mean NOTHING to you in a few years.
I'm not saying you'll blow off everyone, but aside from one or two very good friends you probably will never see or talk to any of them outside of regularly scheduled reunions. That's why they have reunions anyway - because you lose touch. In my whole life I have only known 3 people who married their high school sweetheart. When you go to college and into the workforce your whole life changes - and you change with it.
So the answer to your question: Make time to see your very close friends but don't go running out to every party at the expense of your grades. And you know what, a really good friend is someone you can work on your homework with too.

Honestly, the further I get from high school, the more I tend to look back on it as an exercise in juggling priorities. An introduction to "real life" if you will.
The fact is, you are exposed to a great deal more social pressure now than you ever have been, but still not as much as there will be in college.
Decide now what your most important role is right now, student or social creature, keeping in mind which one will get you the furthest in life. After all, High School is only four years out of your life.
The better you can be at keeping your priorities straight now, the better off you will be in the long run. Good Luck

high school brings on pressure because you're learning about the real world. i don't want to be mean, but get used to it. for the rest of your life you are going to be face with these kinds of issues and pressures; whethere to choose your job over your friends, whethere you should stay home with your family or go out partying... high school is just the start. you have to find a balance. when it gets hard to make these descisions, just imagine yourself 5 or 10 years from now, and think about what you would like to look back on. i hope your time in high school turns out well, however you choose to spend your time!

I would say it is to prepare you for life after jigh school. If you go to college, you are going to have to balance everything as well. Also, if you don't, you will still need to balance your other activities and decide on PRIORITIES! If you just want to party and hang out with your firends all the time, do not expect to do much in life other than work at minimum wage jobs. If your friends refuse to hang with you because you want to do your homework before going out with them, LOSE THEM! They are not worth your time! Treu friends will want you to succeed.
