The term 'conspiracy theory' makes all questioning appear stupid. But questioning, of course, is not the same thing as theorizing.
There have been questions about many events: JFK and 9/11 are the two that come to mind first. The fake moonlanding idea is not really questioning, but is a theory.
I like to see people questioning the government. It keeps the govt on their toes.

The assassination of JFK. I have no idea who really did it and who all was involved, but what I do know for sure is there is no way on God's green Earth that Lee Harvey Oswald made the shot that took a chunk of President Kennedy's head off. Over 30 witnesses in Dealey Plaza that day, who all said they saw the President get hit from the front and blood and brain matter exit from the back of his head, can't be wrong. Neither can the attending physician at Parkland Memorial Hospital, who has been interviewed several times and has said on each occasion that he saw the back of Kennedy's head "blasted out." There was a second shooter, and when you have two or more people working together to commit a crime, by definition you have conspiracy.

ooohhh I have more conspiracy theories than you could believe but here are a few
1. The government knows of aliens existence but prefers to keep it under wrap because the population would be in a frenzy and chaos would develop.
2. Cloning food has long since been in our grocery stores but the government felt it best to leave that out till recently.
3. Marylin Monroe was killed because she knew to much..from (pillow talk with the president).
4. We are given placebos for certain sicknesses at times without knowing because medical and science have a dispute of "Mind over Matter."
Okay that's enough conspiracy for now...

I believe that there is a conspiracy in the academic world to ridicule and drive conservatives out of the schools/universities. I see more and more Conservatives leaving Universities, some transferring, many simply joining the military, something they feel is honorable. I know I personally have been attacked several times by Professors, but I've resolved to show them up by not only graduating, but graduating early Summa *** Laude, which'll be a challenge, recieved some poor grades for my own Political Beliefs, in the process of challenging them.

I think it's a very convienient way to make something seem ridiculous by calling it a conspiracy theory.
When you mention conspiracy theorists, most people will think of someone running around with tin foil on their head to stop the government being able to read their minds etc.
This is very handy, for any government, to be able to push anything a bit too close for comfort under the 'conspiracy' umbrella - so as to discredit the people who might have valid reason to think something is up.
For me, the 9/11 conspiracy has a lot of interesting arguements to it. However I don't believe the reason behind it is so strange.
Both groups of believers and non-believers of conspiracy theories, will quite happily suspect that oil was the main reason for going to war with Iraq and invading Afghanistan.
The middle east sure as hell weren't providing any reason for us to invade - just sitting quietly on their reserves until world supplies run short...
I can see it as totally credible that the American government would realise that a shortage of oil was due; (Whilst the government say we have some 40 years left, some geologists say 10 - see link below.)
To stop millions of old people dying in the future (because they can't afford to heat their homes),
To see the US slip out of power (as their businesses can't afford the growing transport costs)
To see the US way of life fall apart (Cheap petrol and flights around the massive country)
And the only way to sort all these problems was to get more oil until they can develop renewable resources (like the government is currently doing under George Bush's energy plans - http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/energy/ )
The american people got a nice big american-flag waving sign that they needed to prompt them to go to war, and America get their oil - sacrificing a few thousand lives now, for the millions that could die in the future, their position of strength in the world and the billions upon billions of $'s of business revenue they stood to lose.
It just doesn't seem that unbelievable to me. I would have made that call if I was in that position myself.
And here's the link to a video which I think everyone should watch just once, it's a bit patronising in tone, but whether you come away believing or not, it still raises very interesting questions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_q6j6BZkHQ

I think JFK. There is just so much information available and so much of it can be 'convincing' if you keep an open mind.
The best book, in my opinion, about JFK was a collection of conspiracy theories by Jim Marrs. He said in the introduction that only ten per cent of his book was true...the problem was, he didn't know which ten per cent!! This is an excellent way to look at conspiracy theories.

That George Bush and Tony Blair (and their staff) met in secret, (although their meetings weren't secret, what they discussed in those meetings still is) and planned (conspired) to mislead their government's, their populations and the world, (they deliberately lied) about Iraq having WMD to gain support for an illegal invasion of a Soveriegn state.
Guess what? that covers the defination of a conspiracy perfectly. and it is not just a theory, it's a fact!
I could list the official theory of 911, but I don't believe it, it's just not credible at all.

There is a supreme being that created the world in 7 days and when some people didn't dance to his fiddle he threw a complete baby and drowned the whole planet. Then he scared some more people and finally got a young girl into trouble. The resulting male was different from everyone else as he could not be killed and subsequently flew into the sky without the aid of any devices.

Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed was killed by British Agents. Although its been conclued to be a tragic accident. But theres alot questions not been answered like why did it take so long for Diana to get to hospital by ambulance and why did they go pass 2 other hospitals before getting into one. Also the driver Hernri Paul was over the drink drive limit, but samples of his blood was switched to think the investigators think he wasnt. The accident in the tunnel in Paris was made to look like a car accident the papparazzi was allegedly chasing the car. They were blamed for the 2 deaths.
