am sure some of the three qualities overlap. for example, someone can be liked and respected and some dictators in the past are respected and feared. but you have 2 choose one only. am not sure which one i would choose.

Respected for sure. You can be liked but not respected which can cause problems for you, with your friends and family, you can be feared but no one will really like you and if they act like the respect you they really dont they are just motivated by fear.

Hello there, you have a very interested question. The answer for me is respect. The reason for that, is because you can not be liked if you are not respected. What I am really trying to say is that someone has to respect you before like you. In that way you have to do something that they will respect you for. On the other hand for fear, is that people will be after you. I think that fear is over rated, while respect on the other hand is not and will never be over-rated.

Bye bye
Good luck!

It's like the old Machiavelli thought. That fear of a ruler will bring about respect.

I don't agree. I think that fear of a ruler would cause a fake sense of respect but behind his/her back there will always be someone who would take your power away to remove the fear.

I believe much more that being liked will bring respect but still you could like a monkey but not respect it as a leader.

Respect is the ultimate goal of the fear and liking. Respect is my choice. The real question is how to get it.

To be liked genuinely.

If you are feared, people will react to you out of fear. Think about how you act when you fear-it's not always rational or authentic. How can you be true when you are bound by fear? I think of a battered wife who stays with her husband in fear for her life. To be feared leaves little option to chose and I don't like the power of it.

If you are known to be respected, a person may act on the basis of your title or reason why you are respected and give little thought to who you really are. For example, generally people who are "respected" have titles. In our society, a doctor will more than likely be trusted over say, a blacksmith because of his title. Titles can limit your inquiry and can sway your opinion.

To be liked is an open choice. It can vary in reason yet it has no boundaries or attachments.

It is always better to be feared.

If you are liked, people can like or dislike you. They can like you one day, and then not like you the next. Theres nothing to keep them definitly liking you.

Respect is a good thing, but it's the same situation. Someone can respect you for one trait, and not for another. You can be respected, and then have one bad day and have everyone not respect you any longer.

To be feared is ultimate. If someone fears you, they will do anything for you. Fear is power. It's not necessarily the prettiest of the three, and it's not the nicest, and it may go against morals, but it's the best. Plus, fear doesn't go away. If someone fears you, and your nice to them one day, they will still fear you.
