Let her cry! It sounds harsh but its the only way to go. You have to allow them to learn to sooth themselves. If you dont start early it will only be harder as the baby gets older.
Usually the first night the baby will cry for about 30 minutes or more even. DONT GIVE IN & RUN INTO THE ROOM!!! Then the second night it will be for maybe 15 minutes. By the third to fourth night it will be a whimper to nothing. Just maintain a routine when you do this. Say goodnight, its time to go to bed, and dont forget the "I Love You" and quietly exit the room. DO NOT under any circumstances re-enter the room. No matter how hard it is, you have to do this now.
If you share a room with the baby. Put them to bed at an earlier time then you, and wait for at least 2 hours before you go back into the room. It will work, I promise!
Let me know how you make out if you try this. dvdsnx5@yahoo.com ~Baddest

A cot is the safest place, (have Patience keep trying put her in through the day when she has her nap) you could roll over and smother her in bed. She is just a baby and will soon learn that her cot is her place. She will not fall out if you have the sides up. If you can, put her cot in your room until you are comfortable enough to leave her alone all night. You also need your rest. Good luck

I have 5 children and I know how hard it can be!!! You didn't say how old your child is, but if she is having sleeps throughout the day, try her in the cot then. So she can get used to the surroundings. If she cries leave her for a few minute, and then go into settle her and reassure her. Add a couple of more minutes on every time you lay her in the cot, and, although it may take time, she will get used to it.

I'm a little thrown as to the "cot", but you may try a sleep over with her. Make it a night, something to get her excited about sleeping in there. It may take more than one night, but she will finally see that she is a big girl. You might also let her go to the store and find a night light, that she likes, no matter what it is. Or a stuffed animal to lay with, or even a blanket. Make her feel that this is her room, and you want her to be safe. Giving kids choices, I think helps them grow a little more into being independent. Good Luck

Stay very close to her at first - resting right next to her cot. Then move a little further away each night. If she wakes up, go to her instead of bringing her into your bed or you'll likely have to start all over again.

its very hard at first because you are very tired and give in for easiness like i did and put them in your bed, just so you can get some sleep. put your baby right at the side of you in a moses basket, i did then after a feed or a little cuddle i,d put them in the basket, it did work eventually, after a while i put the basket inside the cot to get them use to the new surroundings, that worked too, i know its not has easy has it sounds and also they get colic, Good Luck!!

Put her down at night sleepy, but not asleep. If she cries, let it go 5 min, then go to comfort her, don't pick her up, but pat her back and let her calm down. Leave. If she cries again, wait 10 min and repeat. Keep going like that.
It'll take time but eventually she'll learn.
And FYI "cot" is British-English for the same type of bed "crib" is in American-English.

i have made the same mistake with all 3 of mine cos its just easier when they tiny to have them next to you. i'm about to take number 3 from my bed into his cot, there is no easy way of doing it, you just have to put him/her into the cot with a dim light on in the room and let them cry it out. its heartbreaking at first to hear them cry knowing you've caused it but after 3 or 4 nights he/she won't cry. it's easier to get them into a cot than a bed cos they cant escape from a cot, i'm just going through that with my toddler, oh what fun that is! good luck xx

just put her in the cot and leave her to cry , this is not heartless just a battle of wills, preferably if she has her own room it will be a lot quicker, make sure she has every thing she need dry bitty-full belly-warm but not to hot a dummy is she uses one and leave the room, if you need to go back into the room to check do not speak to her ,see to her then leave, this should only take about a week to concur if you do it right, then dint take her back to you bed for any reason, good luck....

if she's not in a habit of sleeping in the bed with you then place on her the cot with a pillow or an old t-shirt of yours so shes picks up from scent.
