Using different laptops, all using windows wireless configuration. Using WPA security, put in key says connected to network but internet does not work for some reason. Try repair connection, fixes it most of the time, other times it does not. Reboot will fix it sometimes as well. What is the problem? Seems like only have this issue when I set up connection. Using open(auto) authentication, WPA (WPA-PSK) encryption. Major hassle having to fix issue over and over with different laptops. Any clue why this keeps happening. Makes no sense that it says connected to wireless network, but no connectivity to internet. SOO FRUSTRATING! Made the necessary changes to router(or modem), and laptops so that they all have same key, same network name, same encryption, etc. Should not keep having problem, but still do.

Using win XP, Qwest modem, no vendor device for wireless config, cannot disable security because that would be foolish.

what program are you using in XP? Windows, or a vendor program to control wireless connection? I found a Windows supported WPA software, which needs to be downloaded from MS.

Is this just with WPA? Try disable security and run the wireless open, to eliminate wireless connection issues.
What is the router? download a new firmware.
Could also be the DHCP lease time, set it to a longer time in the router, and autoreconnect.
Try going to WEP for the time being.
Cable between router and modem is good?

Could be the modem is not connected to the internet. Try power cycling the modem and router according to your router manufacturers instructions. There was a time when I had to power cycle the modem almost every day. Finally, I bought Network Magic and the problem has almost disappeared entirely.

But the fact that your wireless network icon says connected only means it's connnected to the router. But if the modem don't have connection to the internet, none of your pcs will work.
